Day 16...

~ Greetings and Warm Welcome to ~
Day 16...
Today I have a most special thing to share with you! I'm just tickled pink how it turned out! I hope you will be too. If you follow me and my blog, you will already know that I typically only stitch designs from a handful of designers. Not because I don't like other designers or their wonderful designs, only because I only have so many hours in the day, just like all of you I'm sure! Of course I'm a Christmas Girl and the Just Cross Stitch Ornament Issue will introduce me to designers that I'm drawn to their ornament submission and I will stitch their ornament and then go and look to see if there is something I want to purchase from their design line. That's happened to me a lot!
 What about you?

Anyway....
in 2011 I somehow came onto the scent of Brenda Gervais because of her love of the Iowa eagle cam. I was watching the eagles myself and was totally enamored. See I'm a microbiologist and that kind of stuff dings my bell and toots my whistle. Brenda released a limited edition pattern dedicated to the eagles and a portion of the proceeds went to the eagle project. So I bought it and stitched it. And I began to follow Brenda on her blog. I love her work and admire her very much.

Since I found her those hand-full of years ago...
I've stitched many of Brenda's designs.

The Soar Sampler...
Soar Sampler w signature

J.M. Gardner...
JM Gardner 2013 Fair

"Snow Bird Pinkeep"....

"When This You See"...

Then I stitched "Snow Bird Pinkeep" over 1 on 32 count French Blue Linen and made:
"Snow Bird Pocket Watch"...
for my bud Marie P.'s birthday last year
This year...
as I was looking through Country Stitches On-line (Brenda's on-line shop) I found her older ornament designs. So I ordered up and stitched and finished...

"French Hen"...
With Thy Needle and Thread French Hen Ornament

and finally my share with  you today is another find from her older line:

"A Winter's Skate"...

A Winter's Skate by With Thy Needle and Thread

Now what is...
not to like about this cutie patootie? Totally cute as a button. This is ornament size or a little cupboard hanger size. But I've got intentions of stitching it over two on a larger count to make it a little bigger to make a skate for my winter (after Christmas) decor and hang it from a door. I decorate my home seasonally and for winter I do snow and evergreen boughs all over the house and this sweet "A Winter's Skate" would fit right in!

Now if you are thinking...
I couldn't finish something like that. Have no fear! Brenda includes fabulous finishing instructions. I had ZERO problems making my "A Winter's Skate" in fact it took me like 30 minutes.

So there you go...
Day 16!

Just a few words about...
yesterday's post. I stirred up a cauldron of distress that I didn't mean to do. I received a lot of e-mails and comments from people thinking I was going to quit blogging. NO! I'm not going to quit blogging...this blog has made me - The Twisted Stitcher. Its sort of like my alter identity now, how can I quit that? Plus, I couldn't just walk away from all the friends I've made.

My point was....
Facebook and Instagram are impersonal, "quickie fixes". I use both venues to connect with friends and to view other's hobbies, etc. But I personally prefer to blog. You cannot get that "homey", "warm" feeling by clicking a heart or clicking a thumbs up that you can get from reading a person's heart in their blog posts - so I'm staying. I grieve over those bloggers - for what I am very sure is good reasons - for walking away from blogging and I miss them!

What I meant about not blogging...
was that maybe I wouldn't do the 25 Days of Christmas with The Twisted Stitcher. I wasn't complaining that it was too much work or that I didn't have time. I enjoy it myself because if you haven't figured out by now: I LOVE CHRISTMAS! What my point about not doing it was: I wasn't getting the comments (or responses - many people e-mail me personal comments) that I had gotten last year. When you put yourself out there (like I do and I do!)...and you don't get a response, a person can't help to think: do they not like what I'm doing? what I'm saying? Am I boring them? Is this too much like last year?

From the response...
I got yesterday, those that read my blog during the 25 days and all through the year, like what I'm doing and what I'm saying. So good! I feel better now! I know everyone is busy and cannot comment every single time. I understand, I'm the same and I'm as guilty as the next guy about skipping commenting sometimes. But I'm aware how it makes an author feel to get a comment and so I try very hard to leave one for the blogs that I follow. It makes a difference.
Thank YOU for being my readers!

Until tomorrow...
I'll be keeping my hands to work and heart to God, just like always!

Love in stitches,
Vonna xxxx

  3. Love these designs by Brenda. What a great idea to make another "Skate" and this time a little larger.
Like you, I really love blogging - although you wouldn't think so when you see how infrequently I posted in 2014.
Best wishes to you and all your loved ones for a Blessed Christmas and happy stitching & blogging in 2015

  4. LOL Vonna - I knew everyone would panic! I sure did! Glad you're staying with it. Your blog is one of the highlights of my day - especially around the 25 Days of Christmas cuz it's every day! Love this skate. And you know I love the Snowbird. You've popularized that pocket watch idea. One of the best ideas ever!

  6. Good morning Vonna, I took the time to look up my password just to add my comment. I love your blog and enjoy every post. I too, unfortunately, have gone to Facebook and Instagram due to the ease and speed of posting. I am so inspired my you and hope to get back to my blog Counting Bits of Joy soon. Your 25 days of Christmas is an added bonus for me. Happy day to you!

  7. Greetings from "not so sunny" California! We've got some rain falling and after another year of drought what a lovely sight! Ok, can I tell you how much I love the snow bird pin keep? Did you make the snowflake? Lovely, lovely, lovely! I"m toying with 1 over 1 again. Haven't done anything that fine in about 15 years although I love 1over 2. Off to stitch with that gals...have a great day and we'll see ya tomorrow!

  9. Vonna, so glad to hear you are still going to blog. I have not missed an entry and yes, I am guilty of not telling you how I love your posts. You cheer us all up and your tutorials are a.must for me. I love how you finish and share with others. You "light up" the stitching world of blogging. We love to hear about your family and friends.

Christmas is a special time of year and I love your 25 days ideas. It is a gift to all your readers!

  10. This is my first time visiting your blog and I'm enjoying it a lot. I'm glad you're not going to stop. You have a new follower today! Merry Christmas.

  11. Hi Vonna,

I thoroughly enjoy reading your blog! It is so inspirational!

I have to confess - I am one of those who don't often take time to leave comments. Please don't take that as an indicator of a lack of interest!

I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! All the best to you!

  12. Glad to hear that from you Vonna. You were the reason I was able to finish a massive project (by my standards) with the CCN cottages series!! I would never have been able to complete that without your motivation and the SAL :)

  13. Vonna, I love your blog! I visit it all the time! I have been remiss in not commenting more often. Will try to do better on that. Your finishes are gorgeous and always make me smile. I love to sit back, read and catch up on your family. Thanks for sharing so much with us!
    PS: I love your 25 days!!! :-)

  15. Very different pieces. Very pretty. You always do a wonderful job.

  16. Dear Vonna,
I do love the designs of Brenda too - but I did not have stitched this wonderful samplers, like you did. They are so amazing!
As the wonderful last two are - these special finishes make such a perfect look! I love them!

  17. well glad we cleared all that stuff up and you are not quitting and I am not quitting (blogging I mean !) - LOVE LOVE LOVE your WTNT collection - I agree Brenda Gervais is a fantastic inspiring designer and your interpretation of her designs are wonderful. My avatar this month is one of her Santa's in hooked form - it is from the Santa and Ewe design if my memory serves me. of course the rug is still in progress. Take care and enjoy Day 16 to the fullest - Mel

  18. Beautiful finishes! I love WTNT designs. I particularly like the frames you chose. Do you usually do the framing yourself or have them professionally framed? Your idea to stitch the Winter Skate in a larger size to hang from a door is a great idea.

  19. Thank you for introducing Brenda Gervais to us - I haven't seen her work before and really like the skate design.

  20. Hi Vonna,
I've been following you for years now. I NEVER comment because I don't feel I have much to offer. But after reading your last post and then one today, I felt the NEED to let you know how much I enjoy your blog, your beautiful work, your lovely tutorials and all the updates and sharing of your family. You are a HUGE inspiration to me and keep my needle busy. I apologize that I haven't commented and promise that I will from now on.
I can't stress enough how much I appreciate your blog and all the lovely patterns and finishes you share with us. I'm so happy to hear that you aren't going anywhere.
Happy Holidays to you and your family ~ Bobbie

  22. I love all these ornaments and pretties that you show. I love your blog..actually wish you'd update more often but that's just because I like to read about people lives..people are interesting. I'm glad you are staying. Have a blessed Christmas and New Year.

  23. Very nice finishes! The primitive style is not my cup of tea but that is what is so great about this hobby...something for everyone!

  24. Vonna, yours blog is one of my favorites. I always read but don't always have the time to comment. I love your finishing's and always tell others how to find you and learn. You have taught me so much, but I still have a long way to go to learn, but am trying. Your 25 days of Christmas are so uplifting and fun. Family, Friends and the Lord are my favorite people.
Merry Christmas to you and the rest of your lovely family.

  25. I'm a very new follower and love what you do. Although I do a lot of embroidery, I'm not very skilled at finishing yert. I intend to watch some of you tutorials in the new year and improve my skills. Thank you for sharing your work.

  26. Oh please keep blogging!!!!! Pretty Please with pink sugar on top! I find you so inspiring and creative that I can't imagine not seeing our wonderful family and needle delights! I read your blog on my phone via Bloglovin and I can't figure out how to comment from that app which is why my comments are much fewer. Maybe this is the reason others might not be commenting as often.

I have several projects inspired by you all kitted up for 2015 already - Poinsetta House ornaments for my kids, When Witches Go Riding - found at my LNS recently after losing out 10 times on ebay! and hopefully will put together my hoop box! My local EGA (Austin Stitchery Guild) did a summer "hoopla" based on your wonderful project.

You are a delight and an inspiration. I wish you a blessed Christmas!

  27. So happy to read that you aren't giving up your blog. Your 25 Days of Christmas are such fun. I've one of those people who read, but rarely post comments. Your comments yesterday opened my eyes. I'll try to do better.

  28. Lots of lovely stitching to look at today! I love the "A Winter's Skate", but the "French Hen" is fabulous!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I am a fan of Brenda Gervais as well. I have stitched many of her designs. Thanks for sharing yours.

  30. I walked into a large LNS in California and they didn't have a single 'With My Needle & Thread' pattern in stock. I was shocked since I love Brenda's stuff and told the owner so. She tried to say that people on the west coast aren't into her designs but I beg to differ! I know quite a few who stitch her designs. I have five of her patterns sitting in my stash already - all ordered online. Silly store!! :0)

Love your blog and want to say that I feel no need for bloggers to reply to my comments. I leave comments as my way of expressing my appreciation of their blog. No need to reply in my case! Love your blog and truly appreciate your tutorials!

  31. Your blog gives me a smile each post :-)

  32. Oh, Vonna ... What can I say other than I am a great big fan of everything you do? It was such a day-brightener catching up on your 25 DAYS just now, my friend! I LOVE EVERY SINGLE PIECE THAT YOU STITCH & FINISH ... always have & always will, hon! Thank you, as always, for sharing your beautiful creations and words! XO

  34. These are all really sweet designs, you have done the designer proud!

  35. Love your beautiful finishes, and BG as well. I have many of her patterns on hand and some that are in progress. I am so thankful that so many followers responded to how much we enjoy your blog, sharing family pics, your project/finishes and tutorials. I always recommend you to any of my friends who ask where they can find a good needlework finisher. Keep up the great work, and blessings to you as you continue to "lift us all up"!

  36. I love Brenda Gervais's designs myself. I'm with you on the disappearing blogs. They are definitely missed! I am by nature a shy retiring sort so I lurk a lot! I have to say with all the Advent posts and your 25 Days of Christmas, they go a long way in getting people in the Christmas mood. So please continue!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Bird stitches! What a lovely theme Vonna.

  38. Vonna, your skate is delightful! Brenda Gervais' patterns are incredible and what a lovely collection of them you have finished! (and obtained beautiful ribbons for) This past weekend my quilting/cross stitch buddies who are three dear friends and I, met at our place for our Christmas get together and I was showing them how I was completing my ornaments and I was raving about you, your blog and your tutorials.

  39. this is a treat for Brenda Gervais fans! I do love her work, don't know why I haven't stitched more of her designs. I do have a lot in my stash! lol! I am glad you are feeling more like people are enjoying your 25 days. I am loving it! And yes, I do feel blogging is more personal. I don't think I could ever stop either. On the other hand, I do love Instagram too! lol! Quick and easy! Best of both worlds for me!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I completely agree with you about blogging. Keep in mind that many receiving new posts other than through the blogger reading list, can't comment. If I subscribe for updates through email, I don't have that option unless I go to Blogger and view it there after reading the post. And some of us love to read but are too lazy to comment!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Oh Vonna, as always, your stitching and finishing is so beautiful and so creative. I love Brenda Gervais' work too and have stitched a few of her designs and have a,couple waiting in my stash.

I think it's true that when we see a design stitched by someone, it really brings it to life and often introduces us to designers that we may have sort of overlooked before. It's too bad there isn't more time (and wall space!! LOL!) to stitch everything that I'd love to stitch.

    ReplyDelete
  42. The cross stitched pieces are great as always, both the stitching and the finishing! I feel it's the least I can do to comment on your 25 days of Christmas blogs as I know all the hard work you put into it. I would miss it if you didn't continue, but I would completely understand.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Beautiful stitching! I've seen the hen done a lot lately. Must be a popular project!

I know what you mean about blogging... How it's more personal than FB... and about not getting comments like last year. I've run into the same thing. Not that I get as many comments as you do, but mine are way down compared to last year also.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I totally agree with you. I feel like I have gotten to know people by their blogs. In just the line or two on Facebook or the other quick venues, you just can't know them as well. anyway, I am happy you will keep bolgging as you have time. I love the work you do. The Brenda Gervais pieces are beautiful. I also like her designs. You inspired me to do JM Gardner.

Love your blog, I read it everyday and am so enjoying your 25 day, as I did last year, however I have been guilty of not commenting these last few days
Please don't change anything, it's perfect as it is.

I have followed your blog for a few months now, but this is the first time I comment... Shame on me! I have enjoyed so much reading your 25 days of Christmas. And I'm a big fan of your creations, too. They are all so beautiful!!! Thank you for sharing them.
Christmas greetings and hugs from France!

  51. So glad that you will continue to blog; I look forward to each and every post. Knowing that you have a busy family and job, I really appreciate all the more that you do this for us . . . as well as yourself!

And may I say that I especially appreciate that you do not have advertising on your blog. I understand that many want to make money off blogging, and that is their choice. However, sometimes it takes so long for all the ads to connect; and I don't have endless time during my day to sit on the computer. All those ads make me tend to stay away from those blogs, and do you realize how many bloggers are advertising these days?!!

You blog has always been excellent, and I'm glad you will continue to inspire all of us. Merry, merry Christmas to you and your family; and may God richly bless you all.

  52. Super stitches..love Brenda's designs too! Will be back tomorrow to see what's next....

  53. I love all your finishes of Brenda's.. the skate is adorable and It would look so cute on a door My favorite is the pincushion and it reminds me I need to finish mine!

  54. Count me as another one who adores your blog but has not been taking the time to comment. You have reminded me that blogging is an interactive medium and not just a one-way street. It's the back and forth between bloggers and their readers that makes this so special (I love to read other comments, not just the blog posts). Your are such a giver and I'm sorry I have contributed to your feeling sometimes like your posts are going into a void. I'm glad you said what you did - it really helped me and I'm sure others refocus on what's important to keep our stitching community vibrant. Thank you for not only the 25 Days of Christmas but also the other 340 days of each year - even on days when you don't post, you're stitching away, and sooner or later we get to see the results of your wonderful work. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  55. That little skate is sweet!! And I am happy to hear that you don't plan to quit blogging, you are a joy to read and not just about stitching, I love to hear about your family and all your traditions. You are the kind of mother I hope to be to my children. Anyway, that was kinda sappy lol but don't ever quit blogging we would miss you so much!

  56. Such a darling little stocking/skate, Vonna... I do worry, though, that I wouldn't be able to finish it. I am not a seamstress--only can do straight stitching which is why I've always shied away from stocking or heart shaped finishes.

I totally get you about blogs vs. Facebook and it really makes me sad that so many long-time bloggers have left for FB. It really is so impersonal compared to blogging and the wonderful relationships that I've made through Stitching Dreams :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hanging my head in shame--I'm another who doesn't leave blog comments as often as I should. (I think that it is part because I do a lot of my blog reading either on my phone or my tablet, and it is not as easy for me to leave a comment using them versus on my computer. I need to make a New Year's resolution to do better. I know how much it means to me when someone leaves a comment on my blog.

I'm always blown away by your beautiful and creative finishes. Your blog posts are always full of such wonderful eye candy. Thank you.

  58. Hi. I'm glad you clarified your blogging views. I know I love getting comments!! Your Brenda designs you have stitched are beautiful. You know I love the Soar sampler.... (thank you). Mine is hanging up as well.

  59. All are beautiful finishes. It's nice to get out of our comfort zone once in a while and looking to different designer genres.

  60. So interesting about blogging. I LOVE reading a good, long story, but then, I'm a reader. I'm never sure if bloggers really want my comments- it's kind of an odd relationship. I feel like I know you! Anyway, for what it's worth, my mom is the only other person I know who cross stitches so I sure enjoy hearing about your work. In particular I enjoy your varied finishes. I'm slogging through Blackbird Designs Anniversaries of the Heart. This will be year 3 and it was a 12 month project! Best to you and yours this blessed season.

  61. Yea.......Yea......Yea!!! So glad you are going to continue to do the 25 days of Christmas. Yes, we al seem to be busy, but I so love your blog and I too will try to comment more......love it all!!

  62. I also love Brenda's designs... I have several large ones languishing in my stash! But... I also have one large one framed and hanging in my family room where I stitch, so I see it ALL the time and smile. And I have another large one stitched but not yet framed... it will also hang in that room. Glad to know you will still blog... :) I try to respond to most every blog comment. I keep them in my email folder until I do... so I see them each day I read mails. Cannot always do it daily, especially at Christmas time. And since my husband's medical stuff, 'my' time is more limited. It will just take some getting used to this new life. Blogging and reading blogs is my sanity. FB--a fleeting glimpse of the world around me. Hugs!
