Ornaments to share...

Glad tidings....
to all my dear friends and readers! I hope that this finds you all well and filled to the brim with happiness! We had a lovely quiet Christmas enjoying each other, and it was made even more special by the lovely surprises that landed in my mailbox. Please take a look at all these lovelies.

And a gorgeous tatted ornament from the generous and kind Cathy :

And on Christmas Day...
in betwixt cooking like a woman possessed and work at the hospital, I stitched up and finished this oldie but goodie:
Little by Little _Good Tidings

"Good Tidings"
Designer: Cynthia Bradford of Little by Little Designs
Taken from: Just Cross Stitch Ornament Issue Magazine 1997

Stitched with mixture of Weeks Dye Works and DMC as called for
Stitched on: 36 ct. Pearled Barley Lakeside
Finished as an Ornament

Since I probably...
won't be getting anything else done this week, I'm going to go ahead and give my 2010 wrap up. This year I stitched and finished / framed 58 items. I had a few large finishes. I had a lot of starts and about everything I wanted to accomplish for this year - I didn't!  Ain't that the way? *smiles*
So what are my goals for 2011? Well....I'm going to limit my purchases. I just went through and cleaned/organized my craft room after the mad fury of my finishing clients projects had all been mailed away, I found that I have a LOT of WIP/UFO that are languishing away in various stages of stitching. So many beautiful things that as I looked at them, I wondered why I ever stopped stitching them. I also have beautiful, gorgeous, wonderful charts that I have collected and purchased over the last 10 years that I think...WHY??? am I not stitching these? So....2011 will be the year of the WIP/UFO and stitching from predominantly my stash. I'm not going to put any "rules" on myself, because let's be honest folks - I won't follow them. I'm just going to do what I can with what I have and rediscover old loves that may have faded from view for awhile. To help me in this devotion...ahem! I joined the "up for a challenge blog" (link in my sidebar along with my list of UFOs - please don't think less of me after you see the list...I'm a little embarassed).

Ornaments...
every year as I put up and then take down my tree I love to look at all my stitched and handmade ornaments. Each one a tribute to something and someone dear in my life. So as I do every year and fail (!) - although this year I did have quite a few ornaments stitched for my tree - I'm redevoting myself to stitching for me for my Christmas tree. I would L-O-V-E to have an entire tree devoted to Prairie Schooler Santas. Ah...a real dream I've dreamed for years now.... AND I know that I cannot possibly stitch an entire tr ee worth with in one year, but I can stitch 6 or more of them (fingers crossed). So I bought me some of that burlap stuff that the monthly Santa's are stitched on and guess what...got the first 4 from the 1980's kitted and ready to go!

So Vonna's 2011 stitching goal is to:
  • stitch from my stash; tighten my belt on spending on new stash - but no rules
  • finish some of the languishing WIP/UFO which one of them is the first linen project I ever started and it is gorgeous...it has lain in a drawer since 1997 (GASP!) nearly complete....I'm finishing it this year. Mark my word!
  • stitch a whole lotta ornaments for my trees next year
I am going....
to start a NEW project on Dec. 31 - as that is customary for me to do each year - its a tradition! Then it is back on the wagon of working from my stash, on my UFOs and ornaments. Speaking of which...I've seen the first 6 ornaments from Little House Needleworks and let me tell you...this year's selections so far...EXCELLENT! You won't be disappointed ;o) and you'll have to take my word on it.... but the first one in the series should be released sometime soon! And it is CUTE!

Until next time...
My family and myself wish you all nothing but the brightest, blessed, happy and healthy of New Years! May your year be filled with nothing but sunshine and rainbows! And while the New Year is rung in, I'll be keeping my hands to work and heart to God stitching away. How many will be joining me?
Hugs and love,

  3. Love your wrapup, Vonna! But it's no fair encouraging me to tighten up on my spending and then tell me that the LHN ornaments are gorgeous!!! LOL! :-) I'll have to be good and just put them on my wish list for Mother's Day and my bday, right?? :-)

I look forward to seeing your beautiful finishes during the next year!!!

    Beautiful ornmanets received and stitched!

  5. Very beautiful ornaments! Love your wrap-up! Like you, I've joined the challenge and will stitch predominately from my stash and I want to stitch ornaments too for my snowman tree. I have wonderful stash too and wonder why I just don't stitch one or a dozen from my stash. LOL!!!
Wishing you and your sweet family all the best in 2011. Happy stitching. :-)

  9. Vonna - I'm doing a modified "challenge" - I'm doing a mix of the things I love - stitching, hooking and knitting - I'm sprinkling in a few new projects but mostly trying to wrap up WIPs/UFOs - I hope to post about it later this week. the idea came from a fellow sampler guild member/DF.
I loved seeing your photos and hearing about your plans and achievements. - this post was wonderful. Many blessing to you and yours in 2011 Melody

  10. Beautiful ornaments! And I love your plan to stitch from your stash and to work on WIPs - me too! And I love love love the idea of a whole tree full of PS Santas! I may have to "borrow" that!

  12. You inspire me! This year it is my goal to...just stitch! I keep putting it off. I started a project for my son's house when he was going through the purchase process over a year ago. He's been in the house almost a year and I'm far (very very far) from being finished. I'm afraid that, by the time I'm done, he'll get married and she won't want it hanging in their house (it's more masculine than she would like, I'm sure :).
I can't wait to see your finished projects through this year!
Happy Happy New Year to you and yours! :)
Thanks for all of the kind words you have left for me over the months...

  14. Love reading this post! Your stitching ideas for next year sound very smart! I hope to take them to heart myself! I have so much great stuff to stitch already....but I do have to keep my LNS in business.....

    Happy New Year!

  15. Oh Vonna, Your words of inspiration touch all of us!! I am so glad you liked the ornament..It was a little different twist ont he model you had made for Diane..All the gifts are beautiful!

I too am in the "challenge" with you and no pressure...I just want to own up and finish some beautiful pieces that have fallen by the wayside....If I can do only part of them, I will consider it a successful exercise!

Take care and may you and your family have a blessed 2011!!

    Always, Faye

  17. Wonderful gifts! And, I have loved every little pic, snippet of wisdom, and fun story that I've read on your blog this past year. Thanks for sharing with all of us.

I happen to be taking a wee break from the cleaning and painting, and sorting and organizing of my office/craft studio and believe me when I say I don't think anyone can have as many WIPs as me! So, I'm happy to see your list!

Have a great new year! I will be stitching right along with you...

  21. All of the ornaments are lovely, Vonna!

Good luck with your 2011 goals! I think you'll do great!

I hope 2011 is a happy and successful year for you and your family, Vonna.

  22. Your gifts are wonderful Vonna. So wonderful to have and be able to look at again year after year!

I, like you, joined that challenge with a twist. I just know that I can't stick with WIPs, so I added in some "new" (meaning already in stash) projects. And I want to limit expenses too. Going through a craft room can be a wake up call for all the wonderful things that we have and may have forgotten about. I'll be applauding on the sidelines for each finish you accomplish.

May you and your family have a blessed, peaceful and healthy New Year!!

  23. Beautiful gifts you received! I think most of us stitchers could stitch years from our stash, but then we'd put all the stores out of business if we did that! So I'm glad not everyone has decided that. LOL I hope you get lots of finishes in 2011.......

    ReplyDelete
  24. You received such lovely gifts Vonna! I love your latest ornament too!

I have heard a few stitchers say they are going to start working on their WIPs at the start of the New Year, and I am one of them. I'm pulling out two WIPs to work on as a New Year start rather than a new chart. And, I'm stitching an ornament a month next year with a group of online friends. It's exciting to think about our new goals, isn't it?

Happy New Year to you and your beautiful family!

  25. FIRST of all, count me in...I will be joining you with pleasure in my heart and joy in my stitching hands!!

Gorgeous ornaments, so colorful and pretty, to one most deserved to receive!! The one you stitched is adorable, I must see if I still have that ornament issue.

I like your resolve and I think you can do it. I look forward to cheering you on to finishes most grand!! I have my list of 15, but was afeared to add more, maybe I will take your lead and add the rest...I don't think anyone is waiting to whip me with a wet noodle!

So 2011, come on ahead, Vonna is ready for you!! I can't wait to see that new start of yours!!

    Hugs to you, dear one!!

  27. I love the Good Tidings. So cute! Oh no, more LHN ornaments?! I guess I'll have to do them this year too.

Have a Happy New Year with your family.

  28. Vonna, Love all of the ornaments. You tree must be beautifully decorated with handmade ornaments. Alot of women in my stitching group have vowed to do the same and stitch from their stash, I hope you enjoy all that you have discovered and uncovered. Can't wait to see you post your finished WIPS. Happy New Year!

  29. Vonna,
Such lovely gifts! :) And I love the ornament that you finished as well. I think your goals are admirable and inspiring. :) I am hoping to finish quite a few of my WIPs this year as well. I may need to check into the challenge you mentioned. I can't wait to see the LHN ornaments. :)

Enjoy your new year. Looking forward to seeing what you start on Dec. 31. :)

  30. Vonna--I have all of the Prairie Schooler Santa charts, i have collected them religiously since 1984, when the first one came out. I haven't been as diligent about stitching them, unfortunately, lol! But, I am up in the 1990's now! Anyway, I did buy a special tree just for them last year, one of the spindly, grungy trees from a country primitive store. One of these days, it will be up-to-date and gorgeous! Good luck with your's!

  31. I love the ornaments! I want to stitch more of them next year too. I have several large WIP's I am chipping away at, and it feels so good to be working at them again. I am sure you will love it too. I want to take the pledge to "quilt" from my stash too, but I won't give myself rules, we all know I'll totally break them. Here is to a fun 2011!! Love ya! :)

  32. Aww, you are lucky! You get a sneak peek! Hey Vonna, be prepared my friend, I need a little guidance and I will be sending you a personal email later this week, I know you are a devout catholic and I was once, so I need to ask a question, hope you won't mind!

  34. Look at all the lovely ornaments!

I am not one to set stitching goals for myself outside of a project of two - I can't seem to plan for a whole year and stick to it!

Wishing you the Happiest of New Years!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Love the gifts! I love hearing your wrap up and goals for 2011 too. I'm like you -- I have to tighten my belt on stash. Stop buying! lol! Or as much as I can at least. Hope you and yours have a wonderful New Year!

  36. What lovely ornaments you've received and you deserve everyone. Congratulations on finishing 58 projects tins year! Amazing! Happy New Year!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hey Vonna! Congrats on the finishes! I have the same number, but found two more tonight, so it is not final yet! I think I will be joining the WIP challenge too! Want to use some stash...it seems a bit out of hand! Happy New Year to you and yours! Hugs.

  38. Beautiful gifts and ornie finished by you. I get too stressed out if I have a lot of wips so I try to keep them down even though there are 100s I want to start. I'm going to enjoy seeing everyones progress on new starts and wips next year between the two huge challenges out there! Happy New Year!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Lovely gifts and lovely stitching Vonna. Funny, like you I do also start a project each year. Although Christmas Eve is somehow the date for me.
Great to hear about the LHN ornaments. I'm planning to stitch them all up...plus the one from last year.

  43. I want to shout "YEAH!" at everything you said. But first, I have to say how beautiful everyting is that you received. Lucky you!!

Anyhoo, back to the shouting bit, I totally agree with you. I haven't bought anything new since the summer other than the AotH charts (for which I am on automatic) and I'll be honest and say that while there is a whole lot that my fingers are itching to type in my visa card # and buy, I don't really miss not spending! I have so many beautiful things in my stash. I think that's why I am excited about the January crazy challenge, just because I can choose everything from my very ample stash. I also have a good bit of WIPs that I'd like to finish... I'm just praying that I don't get hit with a slump like I did earlier this year!

As for the ornaments, DH & I were just discussing that! I want to do the PS santas as well as a ton of other ornaments. I always say this after Christmas and by January 1, I've totally forgotten that goal. We'll see how it goes this year!

Anyway, just wanted to add my shouts of encouragement to your goals. Whether you finish everything you aim to do or start a host of new things, the important thing, as you know, is to enjoy the journey. I keep reminding myself of that, too!

Wishing you and yours a blessed new year.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Beautiful ornaments :)

I am doing the WIP / UFO challenge, too. I'm working on my list right now. I have a lot of BAPs on my list...and CDC is at the top of mine, too. I also have a shocking number of small projects that I have abandoned for one reason or another.

I usually start a new project on January 1st, so I am intending for that to be my only new start for the year...unless, of course, I blow through all of the WIPs LOL!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Wonderful gifts you have received. I'm so excited just thinking of your plans in 2011. I'm looking forward to it already!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I love to hear about your new goals. I have never made any stitching goals but I like the idea of stitching from my stash so i think I will join that idea too. I am working on Christmas at Hawk Run Hollow along with many other things so I guess that is where I will begin. blessings to you, dianntha

    ReplyDelete
  47. Wow, you received some beautiful gifts!
Your plans for 2011 sound great. I'm aiming to stick with the BAP's I've already got started to try to make some progress on them, and for new starts just allow one ornie and one small/medium to be on the go at a time.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Lovely lovely ornaments from some wonderful friends.
I sure understand wanting to stitch from your own stash. I am hoping to do the same this year.
Wishing you a very Happy New Year and God's blessings for a very great 2011.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Lovely ornaments, both received and the one you stitched yourself! Good luck with your 2011 goals, good idea to get some of those WIPs done and dusted.

I've decided to allow myself a modest monthly stash budget next year as well as continuing to work through my existing stash. If I have a budget, I won't be so tempted to splurge when I shouldn't - well, that's the aim, anyway ;)

Happy New Year and I look forward to visiting your blog again next year!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Happy New Year, Vonna. And thank you for the sweet comment you left on my blog. I am going to check out that "Up for a challenge" blog right now!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Congrats on receiving such lovely ornaments.
I love your resolutions. You have definitely inspired me to do something on the lines of using up stash and not buying more. Hope I can stick to it.
All the best to you too :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'll be stitching from stash this year too... but like you, I don't do rules because that would just be like waving a red flag at a bull. I have 8 WIPs and will work exclusively on them with no new starts until one gets finished. That's my plan, we'll see. So like you my hands will be kept busy, and my heart, I hope so too.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Vonna, sounds like you have a great plan for 2011. I think it makes perfect sense to cut on shopping for new stash and finish what you have. Why is it that we keep buying instead of finishing. Be sure to show us your progress :-)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Isn't it wonderful to have such creative friends, Vonna--love each and every one of the ornaments that you received!

I'm thinking of having a "stitching from stash" year, too--I have so many lovely charts already that seem to be calling my name for 2011. No WIPs to speak of as I am really a one-at-a-time stitcher.

I can't wait to see the new LHN ornaments and plan on doing my "ornament a month" thing next year, too, so some of them will probably be included. I can't wait to see your progress on the PS Santa ornaments--they will be such heirlooms for your children.

Happy New Year to you and your entire family, Vonna!

    ReplyDelete
  55. These will make a small dent in your "only stitched ornie" tree :-) You have a great plan for 2011, and I'm always excited to watch how it goes with your projects. Such beautiful stitching and finishing! Happy New Year!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Beautiful, beautiful ornaments. I love that you have realistic goals. Retirement tightens my belt for me. I am lucky I saw this coming. Have a lot of stash to keep me busy. :) Thanks Vonna for sharing your pics and your doings. It is always appreciated. :) Cathryn

  58. I hope that you and your family had a great Christmas and that you have a happy and safe new year.

Love the ornaments you received and the one you stitched up. You certainly had a busy year. Good luck with all your goals for next year.

  59. Your ornaments are all so very pretty! I would love to see that PS tree some year. Wouldn't it be awesome?

When I retire this spring I will definitely have to limit my spending from that point on. Which is why I've been enhancing my stash now. I'll have more than enough to keep me going!
I won't be joining the challenge but I look forward to seeing everyone's new starts.

I wish you and your family a blessed and prosperous New Year!

  60. Your blog is so inspiring; I've been cross stitching as much as I can.

May I ask - how do you store all your framed pictures? I can't imagine that each one gets hung all the time without caving in the house :D

  61. HAPPY NEW YEAR !! I so enjoy reading your blog, you are an inspiration to me. I too have just organized my stitching projects and hope to finish a few projects from my WIP's pile.

    Happy Stitching !!

  62. Oh my Vonna, what absolutely gorgeous additions to your tree. Those ornament you recieved are just fabulous. And the one you finished is be-you-ti-ful!!

    Now about those goals..........
I hope you are able to stick to 'em. I know I couldn't. LOL Hey, I always mean well but something else always gets in the way. :) But I am doing the wip challenge and hope to have my list done today. If I can get half that list done this coming year I will be happy. And I have been limiting my stash buying anyway. Except for fabric and floss I have so many patterns I want to get done. Sigh, too many wonderful things to stitch and never enough time. Oh well.

I wish you and yours a very happy New Year.

    Hi Von,
Just got finished cleaning my house and now going to relax and watch some tv. I love the ornaments you received in the mail. The tatted ornament is so pretty as the others but that one caught my eye as I always thought I would like to tat. Hope you have a relaxing New Year. God Bless you and keep you always. 70. Beautiful gifts you received Vonna.

I think I will have to tighten my belt this year too, as I'm sure a lot of stitchers will as well. I have loads in my stash so it's not like I need anything desperately anyway!

I saw the first LHN ornament and it';s gorgeous!!!

    Happy New Year!

  71. Hi Vonna, beautiful ornaments!!! I hope you will be stitching Paradise Lost with me. :-) I so hope to really limit what I add to the stash this year too, and know that I will only accomplish that goal if I don't like any of the new things that come out. LOL

  74. Thank you for the lovely, sweet welcome back, Vonna... It means a lot to me!

Such beautiful ornaments from dear friends and I love your finish as well... and beautiful finishing as always!

I'll be cheering you along as you stitch towards your goals for this year, Hun! I joined the "Up for a Challenge Blog" as well, and I'm wondering what on Earth am I thinking? Me finish 15 of my WIP's...??? I've surely gone completely daft... I'm going to give it my best, nevertheless... And as a wise soul once said... "Do or do not... there is no try..."

I'm looking forward to another glorious year of reading your wonderful blog and admiring your beautiful stitching and finishing and all your lovely photos...

Wishing you and your family much love and joy, good cheer and a warm hearth, blessings abounding and loads of peaceful stitching thyme in the New Year...

Blessings and love always in stitches...
