My Nest...

A little finish....
that I stitched up as a gift to myself for Mother's Day....
"The Nest"
Designer: Lisa Bongean and Carole Charles
found in the "Summer Gatherings" book
*Wool Applique on primitive dyed Muslin; framed by me*

I loved this design....
from the moment I first laid eyes upon it. The quote on the piece is a perfect representation for my life, for the greatest deed I have ever done is being open to God's blessings in my life and being responsible for the four small souls He's entrusted to my keeping. It is an awesome responsibility and one that I knew I was called to from a very early age. I am blessed.

Robins....
are my very favorite bird and I have a little, well we'll call it a "ritual", that I do every fall and every spring. I write down the date when I notice the robins have gone for the year. And then I anxiously await their return back home in the spring and write it down. It varies by a few days each year. I don't know why I started doing this, I just do. :)

Chicks....
you'll notice that I put 4 little chicks in my nest (there were only supposed to be 3). My kids have had fun figuring out which "chick" they are. You'll notice I have chick number one with a big mouth...that's for Katie cause she's always bossing....ummm I mean advising someone (and I mean that in the best way possible)! The boys are the nestlings made from the same color textured wool. You'll notice one of the brown nestlings is sort of tilted sideways kind of dreamy looking....well that's my Jake. And the littlest nestling. Well we all know who is represented by that one, and here she is with her own nestling from the Children's Farm Festival that we attended on Thursday this week:

Ellie with the duckling

Mother's Day.....
couldn't have come at a better time for me, because I wanted to rearrange my finishing "studio". Plus I wanted to organize my reserve skeins of DMC in a workable way for me. My "studio" is in our basement and I've re-purposed a lot of drawers, desks and tables for my little area. So for Mother's Day I asked my husband for those little nuts and bolts drawer sets from the hardware store and he mounted them on the wall for me. Yesterday I spent making little placards for the inside faces with all the DMC numbers on them. I also rearranged and organized my trims, material, sewing machine, etc. (and made a cat bed in the window sill for Chatty and Red - they like to help me finish and sew). My sewing machine is a newbie too, I got her for Christmas - it's a Janome Magnolia 7330 and sewing with her is a dream.

Well....
I guess that does it for me for now. Please know I'm terribly, terribly behind in reading and visiting blogs. It isn't because I don't want to, it's because many times I meet myself coming and going. I also want to thank you all for you continued visits and for especially the comments that you leave to me. You don't know how much I appreciate them and how they fill my heart. Thank you! Happy Mother's Day to all the Mommas in blogland. May your hearts be full and contentment be great.

Until next time....
keep your "hands to work and hearts to God"!

Love and Hugs,

  2. My hun;you've been busy. :)
I love your robin picture; it's so pretty and I know it'll hang in your home for years to come. It was sweet to add a 4th robin for your son. And "your" room is very nice; I have a spare room and after seeing yours and Beckys I have some ideas. LOL Have a wonderful Mother's Day and I hope when things slow down for you; we can get together for a private exchange.

    Hugs, Sharlene

  6. Your workstation is so organised Vonna :) I love all the table space you have - I'm planning to extend my (IKEA) table soon, as my current one just isn't big enough for working comfortably.

Enjoy your Mother's Day - I hope your little chicks spoil you rotten!
