January's Stockings...

Howdy Doo friends!
Hope your enjoying your Friday night! I know I sure am, because I've just knocked out my next goal for this month. I have finished my Blackbird January Stockings in JANUARY! Will miracles never cease?!?!?!?! I stitched AND finished them. And here they are:

Blackbird January Stockings
(l - r) "Winter Carnations", "Auld Lang Syne" and "Happy Birthday"
Fabric: 28 ct. evenweave Vonna's Bake and Basted
Fibers: mixture of GAST, WDW and DMC as called for
Started: 1/11/10
Finished: 1/15/10

Ah yes....

success! What a gratifying accomplishment it is to actually sit and stitch up something that you bought and paid for and has been sitting in a drawer for a year. Yep, now that makes me feel good! And I've already gotten 4 finishes for 2010 :) Yes indeedy, I'm off to a good start.

Today....
I dropped off Mistress Margaret at Michael's for framing. She's lazing it around getting the spa treatment until her big frame day which is supposed to be January 29th. I chose a special frame for her and I decided to go ahead and get her put under glass. Mike is having a big 60% of custom framing sale this week here in good 'ol Bloomy Indiana so I thought why not have Mike frame Margie up. Save me some time ;o) Plus the difference between them doing it and my doing it was marginal.

I've had....

Such a good day, that I'm going to end it with one of my favorite snacks...well let's be serious - one of my favorite low point, filling food snacks. (That's Weight Watcher talk for healthy.) Cause in reality the old Twisted Stitcher would like to sink her teeth into a big brownie :) But I'll settle for my apples and Laughing Cow Cheese for 3 whole points. I cut the apples up in bits and put on a luncheon plate to make it look like a big pile of food, when really it is only one sorry apple and two wedges of cheese. But when I cut it up like this I feel like I'm eating a big mountain of apples.....I know, I know you're probably all rolling your eyes, but seriously I'm into mind games with myself. Always have been. And you all need to try this cheese! Dip your apple in it and take a bite. WOW! A bite of apple with a bite of this cheese...its seriously DELISH! Wash it all down with a big 'ol swig of Diet Mt. Dew....now that's living! Or we'll act like it is so I don't think I'm missing out on anything.

Ok....
I'm off to get started on my next goal for the month of January. I'll leave you wondering so you'll be panting for more ;o) Come on back and visit me real soon now!

Until next time....

hands to work and hearts to God!
Love and hugs,
Vonna

  3. Sorry Vonna! Didn't realize that my son Alex hadn't signed out of blogger until the comment was published. Don't go disowning me now! LOL!

  4. Go Girl Go...Congrats on the gorgeous finish.

I do believe that I have the same black "tree thing" that you are displaying your stockings on, did you get it at Hobby Lobby around Halloween time? :)

Good for you resisting that tempting BROWNIE!

  6. Great finishes Vonna! Congrats! I put the finishing stitches in Poinsettia House today :) Thanks again!!!

And I think your snack looks FANTASTIC! I should be following suit, but I've been eating banana bread for 2 straight days. Dare I mention that my pre-pregnancy pants that buttoned 2 months ago no longer button?! UGH! LOL! Oh well. Monday, Kim! Monday! And I'm going to be giving your apple/laughing cow snack a try!

  10. Vonna, those stockings are just beautiful! I love the colors and the finishing is exquisite :) I love that Laughing Cow cheese, it's also low fat enough for me to enjoy with a handful of Whole Wheat Triscuits and doesn't bother my Gallbladder. I just finished enjoying a low fat Chocolate pudding where before my problem it would have been 2 chocolate bars so I completely understand :) I will have to try the cheese with apples soon!

  11. Your stockings are beautiful! These are one of my projects for this year too, but I think I'll start in February. Yours are so pretty!

Don't you love Laughing Cow cheese? It's very yum.

  12. Vonna, your stocking finishes look amazing! Did you sew them by hand or machine? That is a really good and healthy snack. By the way, I also have started using a saucer for such snacks because that helps me feel like it is more too =)

  29. I had to laugh, you've just made that apple and cheese sound like a major delicacy! Made me start rooting around in my crisper looking for some! Glad to see you're still on track with WW. I've yet to take the plunge.
Those stockings are so cute! You certainly put them together quickly!
I redid Fa La La with the red floss last night and it looks 100% better.

  33. Your stockings are beautiful!!! How will you display this series? Will you keep all of them out all year 'round or display January's stockings in January, etc.? I love this series, but haven't stitched them because I can't figure out how I would display them. Laughing Cow Cheese is yummy! Love that stuff! Never thought to try it with apples. Looking forward to seeing framed Margaret and wondering what your next project will be to pop up. ;)
    Have a great weekend!

  34. I am ashamed of myself! I should be doing the snacky thing like you are, but instead I am wallowing in a sea of self pity and going for the brownies. There...I did it, that is my confession. I got to get back to WW! Pronto!
Love those stockings. Congrats to you on the 4 finishes already.

I can't wait to see your latest finishing. I dropped off something at Michael's this week, too. I've never used them for framing, so I'm a little apprehensive, but I'm hoping they do a good job.

Way to go on continuing your diet!! Woo hoo!!

  44. V - the stockings are so pretty! Are those carnations on the one? That's the January flower of the month, so I wondered. I know because I'm a January b-day and I thouoght it was cool that the other one had a birthday cake on it. You've really had your tail in motion when it comes to finishes for the year so far!

  45. Congratulations on the finish! You are really on roll. I will never catch up with you. I agree about the lunch. I have started eating lighter and healthier. Makes a big difference in how I feel. Oh, and I do the "make a lot from a little" trick too.

Where did you get that lovely black "tree" your BBD stockings are on?
