Grand Champion!

Hello Friends! :) I finished "State Fair" yesterday and I'll let the pictures do the talking:

"State Fair"
Designer: Diane Williams
Fibers: DMC as charted
Fabric: 28 ct. evenweave ~ my own bake and basted coffee/tea dyed
Started: 3/7/09
Finished: 3/10/09

That is smack dab wonderful isn't it? I love it! I'm going to order a frame, but before I do that, I'm just going to lay it in a box and let it set for a while....last night as I was trying to sleep, I was redecorating my walls. Well I figure Mr. Pfeiffer wouldn't be too pleased if I keep making holes in the walls changing my wall decorations around after every finish I have, so I'm going to let this one sit a while and then - when I have more finishes done and ready to frame and hang...then I'll do some more hole making (and I patch too, of course). :o)

What to start next....hmmm? Well I promised a dear friend of mine that I would stitch a square on her NRR, because of issues they had in their group. . . so that's next. Then? Hmmm...I think it will be the Earth Day Sampler by Primitive Needle. It's in WDW and GAST fibers, and you know me - I don't like them....so I'm going to redo the whole colorway in DMC or Crescent Colours...we'll see I have picked out my fabric I'm going to stitch it on - and I'll leave that as a surprise, but it is yummy...and I didn't dye it myself....

Onward Stitchers.....that does it for me today :o) Today is Laundry Day (argh!) but I am doing it with a happy heart (really trying to anyway).....and I have some finishes for clients to day (yay! I'm really excited about one set because of the fabric chosen is scrumptious!) and then hopefully in betwixt all of that fun - I may find a bit of time with my needle and thread...fingers crossed!

Until Next time....love and best wishes, as your count your blessings and your stitches, from our house to yours! XXXXXX

  5. Beautiful finish! Can't to see this framed. And your fabric "baked" looks wonderful. I'm going to have to give that a try.

  7. Great finish Vonna! It's hard to put a design like that down once you start it, isn't it?

Have a great day (even if you are doing laundry!) I actually enjoy doing laundry - it's the dusting and the vacuuming that I don't like!

  8. Really nice Vonna! I like the design. There are so many elements that we can pick apart and stitch as little gifts.

Great fabric, too! You know...your bake and baste method has helped many of us discover our hidden fabric dying talents. You've made us BRAVE! I don't look at fabric in quite the same way anymore. Hmm. I suppose we're either brave or crazy....

Have a happy day, I am doing similar here but I bet you get finished before me ;-) even though you are 5 hours behind. I'm off to get my lunch now .

  10. Great finish!

I hope the rain didn't cause too many problems in your area. Ft. Wayne has the usual streets closed off because of flooding.

Vonna; As a fellow LHN fan, I say Great - I love your State Fair! I have this graph too, but haven't started it yet.

Just curious, I am wondering why you don't like GAST and WDW floss. I have used them for a couple years, and they have been fine. I have never tried Crescent colors. Is there a big difference?

  25. Hi Vonna! I just wanted to pop in and say thank you for always being so positive and joyful! You are a bright spot whenever I get a chance to read your blog, even if it is something sad going on in your life. You help me remember "the work" that we are called to, and to do it all with Christian joy!

  29. Ah, sweet friend...I have missed seeing your wonderful stitchy creations and have missed your wonderful, heartfelt writings as well. So much has happened for you lately.

My heart is so saddened by the loss of your brother. What you wrote in the days surrounding his passing...well, it was so touching and beautiful and so true (how we all need to evaluate our life on this earth and our purpose). Sounds like Ben was an incredible individual who left his footprint in many lives. Praying the memory of his life will surround you always...

I love ya, friend...and miss you so much. We must find a time to hang out...even if it's in the summer. And when did you start a "finishing service"??? Is that a new thing?? As always you amaze me with your plethora of talents! Keep stitching with happy fingers and know you are loved!!

    Love, Kel :)

  31. I saw this at Stitches From The Heart a couple weeks ago...both my mom and I love it. I wouldn't be surprised if it made its way into one (or both) of our stashes sometime!

  32. Beautiful finish! I like to use my DMC more as well. I am fortunate to have a very large collection of overdyed threads and use them often. I have also notice that the WDW tangles more than the GAST. I know that the WDW is one long length but that is nice if you need to make matching cording for something. Otherwise, I will use Crescent colors or GAST.

  33. Congrats! I love your State Fair!
Hey, isn't Crescent Colors just DMC white floss dyed?? I heard or read that somewhere?

  37. Congratulations on your State Fair finish! It’s definitely a winner! You stitched that up pretty quickly!

I agree with you - I'd rather stitch with DMC than anything else. Of course, if someone wants to throw a whole collection of silks at me, I’m not going to say “no”. Like you, if I’m using overdyed, it’s likely the Crescent Colours, because I do such many LHN & CCN designs. But, like you, I don’t enjoy working with the WDW because of the length of the thread – I definitely prefer to have something more manageable.
