A Solution to a Problem!!

HEY, HEY, HEY friends, it's me again! (I would say Fat Albert...but I AM trying to diet! and don't forget I'm hiking my HINEY all over God's creation!)

Do you ever have....problems sleeping at night? Seems the older I get the more "wake" time I have....And what do I fill that "wake time" with? Why thinking about stitching of course! LOL! What else?! :o)

So my latest problem....that came to mind was my ever growing Scissors "collection". I think I'm at that point now that I need to call it a collection.... :o) Well I have a beautiful box that I have been keeping them in. But when you spend money on such beautiful designer Gingher Scissors and other gorgeous gold, black, silver, antique scissors....don't ya want to show 'em off? I certainly do! So there was "the question" in my mind the other night and round and round it went whirling, tumbling, sifting through - until I had a plan.

SO.....today armed with my 40% off coupon of one "regularly" priced item, some finishing money that I had earned transferred to our bank account to cover my expenses (to keep the hubby happy) - I sat out on my quest to Hobby Lobby. I purchased a Framed Cork Board (or message center), bought some lovely brown on cream toile fabric (30% off!), got some of the long 1 1/2 inch straight flathead pins and came back home and created this (better if you click the picture for a closer look):

What'd ya think?! I'm thinking SPOT ON PERFECT! I think it turned out a bit better than what I had anticipated. It's hung behind my stitching chair and high enough that little Miss Ellie cannot get Mama's Scissors, because 2 days ago, I heard - "I think it's time for a hair cut!" I started running but wasn't quick enough because there on the floor was about a 2 inch platinum blonde curl :o( With this solution - Little Miss Ellie can't get Mama's Scissors....I have a pretty "picture" of my pretty scissors and I can choose which ones I want to use for the day and then hang them up when I'm done! Hurray! I love it when a plan comes together!

Until next time my friends.....get creative!

  1. Looks great, Vonna. However, some of your scissors are "naked". They need fobs, especially those long-awaited Cheetahs. Stitch Happy has a great freebie for those. Maybe you should add fobs to your wishlist! LOL! Thanks for sharing.

  3. Looks good!

There must be something wrong with me...I have a grand total of 4 pairs of scissors. :-) I'd love a pair of designer Ginghers, but I'm waiting for the right design to come out. Can't describe it, but it's one of those things that I'll know when I see it.

  11. Oooooh, what a GREAT idea! I may have to "borrow" that one for myself. I have several pair of the Gingher designer scissors as well, plus about 4 pair of Dovos. I've been trying to figure out a nice way to display them, yet still have them be easily accessible to use. This looks like just the thing! :-)

  22. Very cool, Vonna - I've wanted to do something similar myself - my husband's aunt has a lovely collection souvenir teaspoons, and I always liked her display case, and thought I'd love something similar for my scissors.

Glad to hear you are still busting your behind down the pike - me too - grumbling all the way.
When does this get to be fun???????

  37. You have such brilliant ideas!!!
I still like to sleep a lot and can do that, but some nights (very few) I toss and turn, especially because I have the hubbie snoring a litle bit in my ear. Cross stitch is a good idea to think about those nights. Thanks for that also!!!
    Best regards

  38. What a great idea Vonna! I must do this!! I would love to have my scissors on display also! :)

  39. What a fantastic idea!! And it is so pretty.

I did notice an awful lot of blank spaces though. Looks like you need to find more scissors to fill them in. LOL

  44. Sometimes those sleepless times can be very beneficial! (Mine, I just lay there and think about how to get back to sleep)
Your "scissors picture" is great! You are so talented.

  45. My goodness, woman, is there no end to your creativity? When I can't sleep at night (yeah right. As if that ever happens...) I only worry. Must try to think more positive thoughts, I see!

  48. Sorry I've been a bit lax lately. I have been reading just not always taking the time to comment. But this is amazing. I love the scissor collection ...What a great Idea. You always come up the the most wonderful things.
All of your finished pieces are beautiful as usual.
Chatty is a charming little kitty. I love the photos.

  49. Very creative and a lovely solution! You will enjoy seeing your collection out in view now also.

  50. Looks fantastic Vonna! I too have been struggling to figure out what to do with all my scissors (about 20 pair). Seems wasteful to stuff them in a box but I didn't have a table or anything to display them on. Of course I don't use hardly any of them either but I enjoy looking at them. :) A neighbor friend "cut" my hair when I was a kid - poor Mom was dismayed as I didn't have much hair to begin with!

  51. Not sure I can add anything to the previous 50 comments!!! Goodness -- such a GREAT idea.

  57. What a beautiful creation for all your scissors! Love it! Your creative juices still amaze me! And LOL about Miss Ellie practicing her barber skills :) Glad it was only one lost curl :) Missing you and we really should get together soon! 66. Oh girl, where DO you get your creativity! I LOVE it!!! I have 10 pair of scissors laid out on top of a dresser but this idea is much, much cooler! I know where I'm going this week - to Michaels to buy a corkboard and frame then to JoAnn's for some neat fabric!

Hope you don't mind that I'm stealing your fabulous idea!

  69. Ooh, what a great idea! It would have the added benefit for memory-challenged people like myself of increasing the probability of not losing scissors. I just got a pair of those love-handled scissors, and can I find them??? I haven't even managed to use them yet!!
