Introducing....Chatty

Yesterday....after much discussion my husband finally agreed to get a furry member to join our family - because our kids longed for an animal to cuddle.

SO before he had a chance to change his mind....I made a dash to the Humane Society. I had specific ideas (being a previous kitty owner when I lived at my Mom's house) - I wanted a shorthair, adult, Tom cat that was neutered at a young age. So off Ellie and I went to see what they had....they had three rather large "cat colonies" and the first two we went into - well no one was interested in us....the last one I went into there were 5 cats interested in me all male and all around 3 years old. I pared it down to two choices and after school took all the kids back to make their choice. After handling both cats the decision was unanimously agreed upon to adopt "Chatter Box" which I am shortening to "Chatty" (Chatty was my choice too - but I didn't let them know before their own vote). Here he is:

It was Chatty's lucky day! He came home to a big house with 4 very admiring youngsters to play with, a big scratch pad, a lovely kitty pi to sleep in (which he never has) he rather sleeps in my antique chest :o) IAMS and Fancy Feast food, new dishes, a sporting new collar with tags emblazoning his name and our phone number in case of emergency, toys, a brush and a couple of large kitty litter pans - what more could a fella want?!
Chatty's got a cold, and a follow up vet visit today. But he is the most darling boy....sweet natured and loving and yes...he's a bit "chatty" - I see how he got his name! Last night he did good....of course he wanted to sleep in bed with Keith and I - Keith won't have that, so I took "my baby" downstairs and we slept on the couch. Tonight I'm going to put him down in our basement to sleep because he got a bit playful last night from 1-3 a.m. So today it's off to get another scratching post and make up a cozy box for Chatty in his new bedroom :) I hope we have many happy years and treasured memories with our big boy!

  4. Hi, thanks for visiting my blog. What a lovely cat, such gorgeous eyes!
I am looking forward to picking Pongo up, and am still considering his sister. I am not looking forward to the yowls and yelps we will probably experience when he is first seperated from his family!
Looks like your new addition has already made himself at home.
    All the best

  21. Another gray cat lover here....Chatty looks quite happy with his new hooman family!! (I have a little gray cat, too...a female. She came from a shelter, where the workers found her after someone threw her out of a moving car! Poor thing. I have a soft spot for mistreated fur-babies.)

  24. Congrats on the new member of the family! He looks a lot like one of our barn cats, Tugger (named after Rum Tum Tugger from "Cats"), except Tugger is long-haired.

As for his cold, it's a pretty common thing with shelter cats that have been in close proximity with other cats. Thankfully these upper respiratory bugs are easy to clear up!

Have fun with Mr. Chatter Box! (cute name! But I see the need for the nickname of Chatty)

  25. Vonna, he is gorgeous and he fits in so well! Look how comfy he is with the kids. Welcome to your new family member.

  26. Congrats on your new family member! He's really pretty too. I can see Chatty will be well loved and played with.
I do put Cosmo down in the basement at night or he'd be walking all over me at night. He has a window perch with lots of padding that he loves, plus his old bed. He never complains. Our first girl cat hated the basement. They are all different. I also have a scratching tree, but Cos still tried to sharpen on my loveseat, so I put some clear packing tape around the edge and he stopped.
I can't wait to see more photos!

  31. Hi Chatty! I hope that your sniffles get better soon and that you love your new family. My mom says that your new mom is just a goddess, so you should be in pretty good hands. Don't pee on anything and you'll be just fine. With love from your pal Stewey.

  36. Woohoo!! I just LOVE furbabies! And I love the Humane Society, too! :D Chatty's a great name. One of the many I had when I was younger, actually. (Not because I was talkative but because of my name.)

We may have something along these lines to announce tomorrow. Fingers and toes crossed. ;0

  45. Chatty is quite the handsome young guy. He looks like he might be a Russian Blue cat.

Did you read him the rules about staying out of your floss?? My kitty does pretty well, but I was very suspicious when I found a spool of my thread on the floor last week . . . Still, I'll keep her because she likes to perch on the back of my chair when I stitch.

  46. What a gorgeous Kitty! A very welcome addition to the kiddies lives I bet! I agree - he looks like a Russian Blue - they have a lovely temperament.

  54. Chatty is amazing! What a blessing it is to the animal world to have people like you (and your family)who adopt adult pets from the shelter. I would love to do that too, but I have five kitties already. I don't think I could choose though. I would come home with ALL of them.
No new homes for my little foundling kittens yet, but at least I know they are safe and warm and well cared for at my Vet until they get adopted.

  55. What a handsome big boy! He's going to be one spoiled kitty! I love that you chose him from a shelter and are giving him a loving home.

  57. Chatty is beautiful, and already looks very well loved.

My Mum is a huge animal lover, and we always had pets as we were growing up - I think it's great for children. (My Mum created three monsters though - my two sisters and I all have numerous animals - including cats, dogs, chickens and even a lamb!)

We have a few kiddos that would like a couple more kitties, but the two girl kitties we currently own are enough to drive us crazy! (we call them "the beasts" :)).
