Be of Good Cheer....

Hello Friends :o)

Last night after finishing the square on Debby's RR, I started something new, Shepherd's Bush "Be of Good Cheer", seems particularly compelling since "good cheer" has been out of my grasp of late in more than a few areas of life....so I settled in last night and got busy, finishing up the last few stitches and then finishing it into a door knocker (door knob hanger) just a few minutes ago. It shall hang from the door to my downstairs bathroom to always remind me to "be of good cheer"!

Here's my finish:

Shepherds Bush
"Be of Good Cheer"
Stitched on 10 ct Tula - natural
DMC Fibers
Finished as a "Door Knocker"

Another thing that is "of good cheer" is that I'm listening to "Blood Brothers" by Nora Roberts on my MP3 player. I am a huge Roberts fan, have been since she wrote for Silhouette Romances...and as she ages, she just gets better like a fine wine. This newest series...is paranormal, and she writes a mean paranormal.

As a matter of fact I have my MP3 player filled up with a lot of great books....I've got Stephanie Myers - Book #2 - New Moon, Johanna Lindsey's newest Matter of Seduction (I think), I've got that Skipping Christmas book that I've always wanted to read by Grisham (I think)...I've got Culture Warrior by Bill O'Reilly and a whole lot more that I'm forgetting here. An eclectic mix and varied genres and subjects....can't wait to get into them all....I am SERIOUSLY enjoying this MP3 player, a good friend of mine told me her MP3 player changed her life...I laughed thinking she was being nutty, but I seriously understand now....

So that's it for me today, until the next time have a great day and "be of good cheer"!

  1. That's a cute little finish! I think we all need to take that advice from time to time, although sometimes it can be so hard to be of good cheer.

I love my MP3 player as well. It has my entire CD collection on it.

  2. What a beautiful finish Vonna! I love it, it just makes me happy looking at it. I love Nora Roberts too, her books are awesome! The futuristic mystery series she writes under JD Robb are excellent too!

  3. It's lovely, Vonna.

    I'm sorry that you've had some issues recently that have put you out of good cheer. {{{hugs}}}}

  4. Now why haven't I thought of that? I'm an avid reader - including JD Robb's books - and it never crossed my mind to "read" a book on my ipod while I stitched. (Knock on forehead with palm of hand) It's always been a choice between stitching and reading.

Nice finish - and hugs to you!

  9. How cute is that finish...and a fast one at that!
I don't have an MP3 player, but I am thinking about the Amazon kindle where you can download books and newspapers and carry it around with you. But you have to read it.
I'm still one to listen to an entire CD (or lp) and not just one song from an artist at a time. I think the portables are good for walking like you are doing.

  13. What a nice finish :o)

In my collection of bees, I have the Bent Creek ' Be of Good Cheer' and SB's 'Bee Happy' stitched up to remind me to look on the positive side ... and when I'm feeling grouchy in the morning about travelling over the city through the traffic, there's BOAF's 'No Bees No Honey, No Work No Money' - the wisdom of stitching :o)

  15. Lovely new finish and just the thing to brighten the spirits :D As for the mp3 player ... all I can say is "Audible" is my best friend ... I'm so glad I signed up for a monthly subscription as I've got loads of great books now lined up for 'reading' - LOVE the great selection on tap (much MUCH better than our local library could ever offer!). I'll have to check out Nora Roberts, I don't think I've read any of her books yet!

  19. Everyday looking at "Good Cheer" makes you feel better, for sure.
I am not really yet into MP3 world (uhhhhh! I don't have one!) but regarding books i can't imagine not turning the pages. I know it maybe perfect to hearing it at work, like someone said to me, but still find it strange!!
    Best regards

  21. I love your finish but I'm one of your biggest fans.

I have an iPod and I have books on mine too. I listen and stitch, iron, do house work, about everything.

I met Nora Roberts when I did promotional work for Waldenbooks. She is just as nice as her books are wonderful.

  23. Yes, lately it has been hard to "Be of good cheer", so thank you for that reminder. Now you got me to thinking I need an MP3 player...hmmm, I can hardly sit long enough to read a book. Listening to them would be a little different! Thanks for that too!

  24. When DH was commuting long hours, audiobooks on his iPod made it bearable. He actually got through more books that way, as he tends to be a slower reader.

I have a soft spot for Nora Roberts and Johanna Lindsey, and the Stephanie Meyers books were AWESOME

  25. oh I love Nora too! Blood Brothers and The Hallow are incredible! unfortunately the last one won't be out until December :(

Be Of Good Cheer is lovely!!!

  26. Miss Vonna...I read "Skipping Christmas" every year right about the time I'm trying to stuff the tree down the kitchen sink garbage disposal (because I haven't managed YET AGAIN to pull off the perfect Christmas!). I hope you'll love it! Great finish, you turbo stitcher, you!

  30. I love being able to listen to books on my ipod! So fun! Your Be of Good Cheer door hanger is soooo cute! LOVE IT! Perhaps I need one to remind me as well. Hmm...now that I think of it, I think Monique sent me "Be Calm" - I should probably take that to heart too!

You just reminded me that I miss them. I must see about getting some from the library [no MP3] mind you I don't drive around as much any more.

  34. What a great finish!

I've yet to catch up with everyone in regard to MP3 players, but DH's friends also rave about theirs. ;)

  35. Wonderful sentiment to remind ourselves of daily, Miss Vonna. Your door hanger is just lovely!

  36. I don't know what I'd do without my ipod. Do you get your "books" from the library? We're big library users, tho you wouldn't think so based on the number of books in this house! :D Another free source I use for books in the public domain is Librivox. I'm currently listening to My Antonia, by Willa Cather.

After visiting with you here, I'm always left with some good cheer. :)
