Friday Frenzy...

Hello Friends it is Friday! Always the best time of the week, methinks....

And since I've been doing reflections on exchanging and hopefully will turn over a new leaf and stitch more for myself....I've also had reflections on my own personal life as well. Yesterday was the first day of turning over some leaves that I hope will continue and help me to help improve myself. One thing that I never do correctly is "fold the laundry on time" I hang most of our wash and only dry unmentionables and towels. These are always waded into the laundry basket after drying and I'm embarrassed to say that they remain there for days...until no one has underwear on most weeks....SO yesterday was Laundry day and I turned over my new leaf and it was: I do not take the laundry out of the dryer and put it in a basket...nope I fold it as I take it out of the dryer and place it in 6 baskets (one for each member of the family) and then that is that...it is ready for the owners of said unmentionables to carry upstairs to their bedroom put it away and fill the basket up with more dirty unmentionables. I DID IT and it WORKED WELL!! (pat self on back here)

The second new leaf is: having more time to myself and make sure I walk a total of 4 miles per day. I walk about 1-2 miles per day as it is walking the kids to and from school and being that Jake was in summer school this year I walked it all summer too. But I need to lose weight. Now I've always been on the sturdy side, and I come from a long line of tall, sturdy people, so there isn't going to be any miraculous change coming, but if I could drop some weight and do it in a healthy non-threatening way by making some lifestyle choices then I need to make the change now. So my second leaf has been turned the last two days by: getting up at 5:00 a.m. (this is the only "kid" free time zone - as they are snoozing in their warm beds). Keith is up at 4:40 a.m. anyway, so I might as well get up too. He leaves at 5:15 a.m. for work, and I start walking. I walk 2 miles from 5:15 until 5:45 a.m. I get back get my coffee, hit the showers and viola...June Cleaver ready to face the day and four kids...its working and I've been feeling better about myself.

Baby steps to a brand new me, let's hope....I need some work....and taking myself in for an overhaul is a "good thing"! It's good to re-evaluate and realize that you need some work!

Ok, on to stitching....when I'm done with exchanges for awhile...this is what is top of my list:

taken from Little House Needleworks - Diane Williams
Little House Neighborhood

I love it, as I love just about everything that Diane does. It just makes me smile! Well anyway...I wouldn't change a thing about it honestly and it uses DMC which is my favorite of all threads to use, but I received some Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe hand-dyed (DMC based) threads from Marie P for my birthday and they were just lucious. So I had some finishing work money just languishing away in my Paypal account and I went over to Ebay (where the VMSS is located) and purchased an embarassing amount of threads so that I could use them in my LHN Neighborhood and here they are:

Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe Hand-Dyed Threads
(interested? her Ebay Seller's ID = 2500nancy you'll flip - tell her Vonna sent you)
Gorgeous aren't they?!?!?! And the reds...they are, just scrummy :o)

Then I received the sweetest package from Anita as a belated birthday gift! She tells me the stitched part is on its way! But in the meantime look at these delightful goodies:

Anita sent me the pdf format of the Patriotic Set that she designed herself! And then she sent me the fabric that it calls for and two other cuts of beautiful opalescent fabric, the finishing accessories for the Patriotic Set, some Threadworx Threads and some Valdani Threads, and some of those sweet oval thread drops which I put to good use with my VMSS threads above! Thank you Anita...this is too much! And I still have more to look forward to! THANK YOU!!

I also have been negligent in mentioning a thank you to all the people that have nominated me for the "Kreative Blogger" and "Brilliante Blogger" awards. My goodness there has been a lot of dear, bloggers that have nominated me and I appreciate every single ONE of each of you. I have so many readers and I think so much of all the many people that create and take time to share their lives with us that I won't begin to pick out favorites - you ALL are my favorites :)

Until next time my dear readers - stitch with joy as you pick up your needle and floss!

  4. Glad to know there is another person out there that has laundry negligence issues...I can get things washed and dried, but it often takes me several days to get it all folded and put away.

I hear you on the weight loss thing. I have about 20 pounds of baby weight left. Nevermind my "babies" are 5½ and 1½... I've been working my butt off this summer, keeping up with an exercise routine - running/walking for 45 minutes a day, 5 days a week - and watching my food. I've dropped only 4-5 pounds (after 10 weeks, I was hoping this number would be higher...*sigh*), but I've somehow lost quite a few inches, as my clothes that were snug are now rather baggy. Don't know how I can lose that many inches without seeing a larger number on the scale...??? But I plod along...

  5. Great goals. Looks like you are off to a great start!
I really want to do the Little House Neighborhood too. Can't wait to see your progress. Awesome stash of goodies :)

  6. Ya did it to me again! I had to order some floss from Victorian Motto. Bad Vonna! Though I'm sure I'll be singing your praises after I get it, lol.

Good luck on your "leaf" goals. I know you can do it!

  7. Okay, you are actually outside walking at 5:15 am? I'm afraid my DH would have to come after me when he woke up, and would find me snoozing in someone's front garden. LOL!! But seriously, Vonna, good for you! It's the hardest thing in the world (IMHO) to make any room for yourself as a person when you have a family also depending on you.

  8. Good for you on your steps to reaching your goals! I've got similar goals. I have laundry issues as well, and although I need to work on folding things as they come out of the dryer, I also have decided that I am not the only one in the house that knows where the hamper is; I need to enforce my rule of things only get washed if it's in the hamper. I will not go around the house picking up others' dirty laundry, LOL.

  9. I've never had an issue with laundry, now the housework, well that's another story. WOW that's dedication to get up that early and walk. I do about 2 miles per day and need to increase it. Looking forward to seeing your neighbourhood.

  10. It would be so nice if we could "walk" together! :)
OMG you really did get tons of Nancy's gorgeous floss...making me drool!
Anita is so very sweet, I am hoping to meet up with her in TX in the fall. I too have purchased 2 of her fantastic patterns (including the Amaricana one).

    Have a GREAT weekend!

  13. I have some VMSS, you won't be disappointed! I hear you about the laundry, it is so much easier to fold it from the dryer and get it to the rooms, and doesn't take but a few minutes! You're braver than me on the 5am walks, you are so good!

  14. Hurray for the laundry sucess! I should try that! Wow, I can't believe you all walk to school!?!
There is no way I'd let my kids walk in our traffic here in GA. Crazy drivers, plus the train tracks and bridge to cross, school bus worked for me!
What a great floss pile you got!
    Donna
ps:I'm trying so hard to keep my chin up at my new school, today was so bad, I cried on my way home
    :(

  15. Go for it Vonna! You can do it all!

Such beautiful threads for LHN Neighborhood! Yours will be a beauty!

  16. Cheers for your new leaf. Wish I had the resolve to do what you are doing!

  17. 5.00am OMG!!! You have my total admiration. And you're feeling better, that's what it's all about!!
In the meantime I'll be dreaming about that gorgeous floss!! Have a great weekend!!
Now that I think of it, considering the time difference, we are probably out walking at the same time every day!! I'll be thinking of you!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Oh dear I so need to go look at those threads! LOL!

Good luck with your goals. I need to get out walking and lose some weight but since my youngest started high school I don't do the school walk every day so I don't get out as much. So the weight has gone on so I don't feel confident...... vicious circle!

  19. Your posts are always a pleasure to read, but this one is especially positive! Hooray for you! I think it is good, every now and then, to stop and evaluate yourself and see what needs to be changed. I did this too recently. I hope things continue to go in the direction you want them to.

And, my, you have some lovely new stash there. I will go check out those threads. I agree with you regarding Diane's designs - they always do bring a smile. Such pretty and pleasant designs!

  20. You're such a good girl getting up that early!! I've lost 15 lbs. since last June. Slow, but measurable since I'm only 5' 1". Walking has played a big part in that. But my other big tip would be to simply take smaller portions of your food when you eat and turn down seconds. Don't cut out all your favorites, just eat less. Oh and when you feel "hungry" in between, tell yourself, "I'm not hungry, but thirsty" and drink some water. That helped me. Good luck with your goal. If you're patient and persistent, you'll head in the right direction!!!!

BTW I'm bad about laundry, too.

  21. Just catching up on laundry here before I head outside to stitch! LHN is so gorgeous. I love them too.

  22. I hear you on the exercise -- I have been trying to run 4 miles at least 4 times a week. It is a challenge to make the time, but it's worth it. Congratulations on your fortitude to meet those goals -- 5 am is pretty early for most people. That's commitment.

  23. Hi Vonna,

Wow, look at all those pretty,
    pretty hand dyed threads. Your
    version of LHN Neighbourhood is
    going to be fantastic. Can't
wait to see it come to life.
I'm hoping to stitch this one
too. What is it about LHN
    designs thats catches just
    about everyone's eye?

    Your new resolutions are
admirable and I wish you luck
with getting up at 5:00 am to
walk. We get up at 5:30
    during the work week, and
    that's hard enough to do.
The winter time is when it's
    the hardest to do.

    Hope you're having a great
    weekend, even if you're
    working, and the weathers
better where you are then it
    is here today.

    Cheers!

  24. Hey Vonna you know its not a bad thing to be selfish! Being a Mom (not that I'm one but I've known a lot of them in my time), its very easy to put the kids first, the husband, first, even the cat or dog first before youreself. It takes a huge step (psychologically) to stand back and examine your life and see what needs to be changed so that you can be a happier person and in turn be a better Mother, Wife, Friend.

Also its so easy to get caught up in the blogs, online commnuities, etc and all the goings on that before you know it you're loosing the love of your favourite past time. Or you turn anround and find that your walls are bear and everyone else's home is decorated with your stuff!

Best of luck with your life style chagnes! I'm sure you can do it (if you want to... and you have to want to do it), and as someone who has a total of 70 somewhat pounds to loose Weight Watchers has been a great and safe way to do it.. testament is loosing 34lbs to date! I recommend it even if you only have 10lbs to loose!

Take care of yourself Vonna you've been so busy lately!

  25. Those hand-dyed thread colors are scrumptious! I look forward to seeing how they work up. As for those new goals--I'm right there with you! We have a team at work for "Shape Up the Nation," and our competition begins Monday. I've already started wearing the pedometer, and I'm going to try and start walking more each day too. Know you are not alone in the attempt to get fit!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Self evaluation is always good. I try to walk 4 miles a day also, but usally only hit 2.5-3.

I love those hand-dyed threads, I'm definitely going to be checking her out on eBay. Thanks ;)

  27. Sounds like you have been busy and having some good results! Keep up the great work!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Wow Vonna! You are a busy little bee. Wish I could get up at 5am. I checked out that lady with the floss and may just have to get myself some.

  29. Those threads look lovely Vonna. Isn't it curious that "me" time is never a prority when you are a Mum. Glad to hear about the walking - I have just started a programme that breaks me in gently (10 minutes 3 days a week and working up for there - as I am quite unfit) my holiday was my spur, and I can feel the benefit already. Have you got a pedometer?

  30. Just had to come back and tell you that I have just bought ( rather naughty I must admit!) $16 worth of threads of Nancy! I messaged her first to ask about shipping costs and was amazed that she also sends out free threads and doubles those for first time customers! I think that is such a lovely thing to do. Anyway I bought threads for my Needleprint Beatrix Potter Quaker Sampler and for my Weihenburg ( spelling!) Susanne Sampler. Not starting yet but thought I'd be prepared!

  31. Wow! You are an amazing lady! Keep up the good work for you! I hate laundry too... but I hate having it sit around waiting to grow legs worse! It's easier now with just the 2 of us (but I would rather have a house full of family any day than easy laundry...call me wierd!).
I need to be out walking with you every morning... but will wait till it cools off some. Just too steamy anytime of day in August down here (but, then again, I ALWAYS have an excuse NOT to walk!)
Keep up the good work. Thanks you for inspiring us in so many ways!
    Happy stitching!

  32. There' a time in life to make changes... As always, I think you'll suceed in your goals, you've got IT!! Me to, I should loose some wheigth... It's aleays interesting to read about habits of life, we'll never wake up so early here...I think we prefere being noctivagals... I love to read by night.. At what hours do you go to sleep? Your daily routine should be very diferent, we begin work about 8 or 9, not need to get up so soon. Keep up the good work, I'm longing to see you new work. Hugs and kisses for you and yours! MJ

  33. Wow great stitching and stashing Vonna.

Good luck with the "New You" regime.

  34. good luck with the "new you". That is way to early for me to get up and I should walk more but how do you do that between the heat with humidity or the thunderstorms we have had all summer. Keep up the good job.

  35. Congratulations on turning over the new leaf. Good luck with the wallking - as you said, baby steps will get you there.

As you know, I love that LHN design - I'm sure you'll be finished it before I am, though!

  36. Good luck with 'turning over a new leaf', I hope you have more success with it than I did. My laundry basket is piled high again!

I also purchased that LHN design. I am looking forward to stitching it. I just love the threads you purchased for it, I look forward to seeing how it all turns out.

Good luck with your leaf turning! I would say if your get bored sometime down the road, to try something else. Personally, I really like to walk too, and that's why I got the pass to Longwood Gardens. But unfortunately only going 4 times in 8 months doesn't cut the mustard. I can walk around the yard-boring. Our road is a back road with no sidewalks. I think I'll start doing exercises in the morning after I get my back issues taken care of. I have some old Richard Simmons tapes too-he's a gas! ; )
I think Diane Williams does great designs too. You definitely need to stitch for yourself as you love it so much.

  39. Ooooh, lovely new stash, the colors are gorgeous. Neighborhood is such a fun one, I don't have it yet, but will by the end of the summer. Good luck with your new habits. The clothes folding sounds like it worked great, and the walking is a good plan. I really need to fit some more of that into my schedule.

  40. Good luck with all of your goals. I say you need to take time for yourself. Not that you need to neglect any one else... just remember that without your health you have very little to fall back on.
I love reading your blog and seeing your stitching!

Take care and a little walk will do you good!

There is a link on my post about my Mom. Great inspiration. Have a look!

  43. Good for you!.. but you do know you're making me look bad! I did that same walk a number of years ago and lost 30 lbs in the process. Then they changed my hours at work. I'm up now at 4:45 in order to get to work. I'd have to get up an hour earlier to do the walk. No can do!!
The 30 lbs creeped back cause I'm just too tired to walk in the evening. Gotta try another tactic.

  44. Good for you! I have been working on overhauling myself and my home for a while now, and it all starts with baby steps! That laundry thing can become such a huge task, so I think it's great that you've figured out a way to break it into manageable bits - with everyone doing their part.
