everyone knows I'm still alive and kickin' - albeit no stitchin' (or none that I can show you anyway....)
I thought I'd show you my new Sewing/Finishing room! See it's a dilemma that has been solved! We have this odd shaped 4th bedroom and its been mainly a guest room/playroom/catch all room for the past 4 years we've lived here. But this summer after doing some "major" re-doing of the kids rooms (i.e. purchasing bunk beds, desks, chairs, etc - we definitely stimulated the economy!)....My dear husband told me that I should make this room my room. So without further ado...we started moving everything from the basement up two flights of stairs to the third floor. And here we are, welcome to:
My Room:

My work area....
notice the double windows which face the street and primarily where my kids play so I can beat on the windows, shake my fists and make dirty faces at them if they are doing something wrong. Plus, see my best friend in the basket? Mama had to buy him a basket so he'd keep his paws off my work area :) He sleeps in there all day....

Hey....
whatcha working on?

Then....
I've mentioned my flock of friends before and here they are for you to meet, roosting by my windows.

And...
I moved up my thread cabinet (spool chest, whatever you want to call it) up here too...so that all my treasures that are stitching related are in this room.

Here's a new idea....
my furry friends were digging around on my plastic bag of fiber fill. So I purchased a tall kitchen waste basket and the problem was solved, and it looks neat and clean too!

Fiberfill anyone?....

And you all remember my 15 drawer organizer....
it found a new home too, and nicely labeled so that at a glance I can pull the over dyed cotton or silk and find the perfect count fabric.

What's in those baskets on the top? Well let's see.....
Well who would have guessed?! :)

And in the other....
boy am I behind...four years worth behind too.....

Then this summer I added a 10 drawer organizer in snazzy pink!
I labeled them with all of my FAV designers and each drawer contains all the patterns I own of that particular designer! Little House and Country Cottage Needleworks has their own tub file system since I believe (last fondling of the patterns) that I have all of them ever published....(yes, I am a glutton) And Prairie Schooler and Blackbird Designs are getting pretty close to needing their own tub filing system too.
*note this organizer can be found at Office Depot for around $40*

Hey, what's in the basket on top?...
Well, who would have guessed?!

Oh and I've got more baskets....
All of these are kitted with threads and ready to go....and I have two more PICNIC baskets, but I'm going to stop here. Probably go to confession too, because I believe I've passed gluttony and have gone on to gorging incessantly.....

In fact....
maybe I need to lie down in my room and think about my gluttonous sins for awhile.

Oh look who joined me....
sweet boy of mine....he's a fellow glutton too...although of the Fancy Feast Cat Food kind....I believe he just got done with a can, in fact...

Well....
maybe a little boob tube might ease our collective conscious....

Hey! YoHOO! One of you five other people that live in this house?! Can somebody bring me a Coke? Red and I are resting. . . .
THANK YOU for touring my Room with me :) That was fun!
Until next time....
I'll see you next time, hopefully with some real stitching to show you. Until then, I'll be "keeping my hands to work and heart to God"!
Hugs and love,

"My Room".....
It's beautiful, Vonna! I bet you're thrilled to have your own dedicated stitching place! You've done a lovely job with getting it organized! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteOh Vonna! It's just perfect! And to be able to look out the window to make sure the kiddos are being good too. Love it! Your basket idea for the kitty has me thinking -- methinks I need to find a basket for mine too! lol! Love both your furry companions -- so cute! Thanks for showing off your new sewing room. I'm totally envious!
ReplyDeleteI love your room! It's nice and bright and filled to the brim with everything you love. You must love being in there compared to a the basement. :)
ReplyDeleteVonna I love seeing the special work place where you create all of your wonderful finishes! Now when I think of you doing finishing work on an ornament I can picture you right there! :)
ReplyDeleteVonna, You are a woman after my own heart! There is nothing like reorganizing and repurposing to help me get enthused about my projects! Doesn't if feel good! Your room is beautiful and very cheery and uplifting. You've got me thinking about what I feel like doing on this beautiful fall morn....... Thanks for your always inspiring posts!
ReplyDeleteVery cool room! And your kitty stays in his basket?? Whenever I buy my cats a special bed they will sleep anywhere but said special bed. Younger cat's current favorite place is in the large drawer under DS's bunk bed in a pile of t-shirts.
ReplyDeleteOh Vonna I love it! I wanted to do that same thing in my guest room with the bed. What do you call those? Trundles? Looks great and thanks for sharing. You have put alot of work into it but will so enjoy spending quiet time here with your needle. And, organization helps us save time, right? ha!!! Please stop by my house as I could use your help. pj
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful room! I'll bet you can get a lot done in this room with everything at your fingertips. Great job!
ReplyDeletei love your room. i am so jealous. hopefully before too long i'll get my own room. you did a wonderful job. i'm just glad to see that i'm not the only one who is behind in their stitching. Happy Stitching!! Denise
ReplyDeleteHi Vonna, it is really lovely and well organized. I love your birdies on the the worktable and your kitty in the basket! What a hoot. I have to ask about the thread chest. I think I remember that you bought it on EBay. Is that right? I've been searching for an antique version, but they are always too pricey and falling apart. A repro would do me just fine. Thanks for the tour.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect space for stitching and crafting! You are certainly organized with style!
ReplyDeleteYour room is wonderful, so light and airy and organized. I am the least organized person I know, so I am in awe.
ReplyDeleteLove the cat basket too
Ohhhh Vonna, I am mad envious! I love love love your room and your view from your work area...it is just amazing. It looks so calm and peaceful and so much like you, pretty and "together." Your cats are beautiful and the perfect addition to your room! I think I may be right behind you in the confession line, as I have just crossed over from admiration to pure envy....as I grab the Rosary beads and run. :) Enjoy it darlin' you deserve it all!

ReplyDeleteWell Done Vonna! No wonder you haven't had time to stitch. It is inspiring me to get up to my own craft room and do some re-organizing!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful room!! Love everything about it! I'm going to steal your kitty basket idea, Livy and Ella "lounge" over anything I'm doing! Thanks for sharing your great space!
ReplyDeleteVonna, your sewing/finishing room is simply grand! Thanks for the tour! Love how you have your things organized!
ReplyDeleteRobin in Virginia
Love your room. I need one just like it.
ReplyDeletePatti xxx
Awesome room, love how you can spy on them out your windows, that made me laugh out loud, because I do the exact same thing :)
ReplyDeleteI recently organized my fabric and stitching, and I think I need to sit on your bed with you and think about my gluttonous habits as well :P Then afterwards we could go shopping!
Love ya :)
Vonna, your special room is such a happy, peaceful retreat. Thanks for sharing your wonderful ideas.
ReplyDeleteI think the confessional would be busy all day if we all got in line with our "obsession" On the other hand, to quote my Nana,"idle hands are the devil's workshop" so God would be pleased with us stitching away LOL You've done a great job...ENJOY!!!
What a cool room! I love the big window which must make it nice and bright. Your furry little friends are adorable too.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to get more organized. We've decided that we will finish off my craft room in the spring when I'm done work and have more time.
As for gluttony... I'm guilty as charged! I don't want to even talk about how bad I've been lately, lol.
I love it!Your cat in the basket is so nice!Kisses,Anna
ReplyDeleteWooHoo is right! What a great crafting room! You've given me some great ideas, as you always do, and perhaps a tiny bit of 'clear it out' inspiration! It's beautiful, and I know you and the stitching friends will enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYay!!! It's wonderful! So great that you have your very own space! Enjoy it!!
ReplyDeleteLove the kitty in the basket, he caught my eye straight away ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous room, everything is so well organised - bet you're going to enjoy spending time in there now.
Vonna,
ReplyDeleteWonderful room! I wish you many pleasant hours there.
Vonna I am so jealous!!! I know being jealous is very naughty but I so would like a room like yours :) It is perfect and I just picture you in there :)
ReplyDeleteLove it all--and could Chatty be more adorable!? I think not. :)
ReplyDeleteYou did a wonderful job with this room, Vonna. I espcially like the desk being at the window!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful your room is. I love it all. Enjoy your special place. The kitties are too cute!!
ReplyDeleteFantastic, Vonna! What a wonderful room with lots of lovely bright light. Love your kitty in the basket. I spotted that little head poking up in the first picture.
ReplyDeleteHave fun in your little piece of Heaven on Earth!!!
Thanks for sharing your room! It gives me ideas for what I need to do with some of my stuff.
ReplyDeleteOh, how will I ever thank you for putting such a lovely quilt on my new bed? (tee hee hee)
ReplyDeleteI'm putting my shoes on and packing Stewey's overnight bag!
A perfectly lovely room for a perfectly lovely stitcher! (You, I mean. Not me.)
Congratulations!
When I saw the first picture I thought "Oh look, the room comes with a cat!" I love your room and now we can add envy to the confession. LOL!
ReplyDeleteThat couldn't be a more fabulous play room for you. I am totally 702 green with envy!
ReplyDeleteGreat room! This is something I'm working on doing myself... my 'room' is a catch all right now and I'm trying to make myself get in there and sort, organize and purge so I can make it a nice spot to work. Maybe this will be just the inspiration I need! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous room! I am so jealous! What a blessed woman you are! :)
ReplyDeleteVonna, such a wonderful room, with a great view for watching your kiddos. It's so well organized.
ReplyDeleteYour room is lovely, Vonna! The desk by the window is perfect, lots of light for your stitching and sewing and wonderful view for the kitty! Isn't it nice to have a special place to spend a few hours in stitching!
ReplyDeleteYou might be a glutton, but I covet that room! The only thing I would add would be a mini-fridge. That way you don't have to wait for anyone to bring your coke!
ReplyDeleteGreat workspace!!! I l love how you arranged it. So organized!!!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing your sewing/creative space Vonna. Love it and thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteJackie.
What a fun, bright, room to work in!! I think it would be hard to leave. :-)
ReplyDeletePhyllis said: Congratulations, Vonna! What a lovely room - with all the comforts (of home). You are blessed and a blessing.
ReplyDeleteYour new room is wonderful and so light and organised. You must love stitching in there, so many lovely designs, how do you choose which one to do next. Your furry assistants are adorable.
ReplyDeleteLove the room. You might need some more bins though after this weekend. It looks like a lot of great new designs will be released.
ReplyDeleteDoes your sweet husband have an older single brother. What a guy! I had to kick one of my kids out to get my room! (just kidding!)
ReplyDeleteYour room is great, just perfect, and you deserve it for all the great things you do!
So jealous of your room! I just showed my hubby, and said I Want One!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy your new room, btw, good job on organizing, we're alike that way too!
canadianbloggergirl.blogspot.com
Love your room!! I love seeing everyone else's creative space, thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWow, Vonna! What a fantastic set up. I'm insanely jealous. I had a great set up in my basement in the US but now that we're in Ireland in a bigger house, there just isn't the room! Go figure. Anyhoo, love that you're able to look out on the kids from the windows. That must make you feel much more at ease to be up there creating while the kids are out. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteVonna, I am also blessed to have my own craft/sewing/stitching room!! Are those some blank walls I see?? Any stitching plans for those, quilts hanging, stitching, etc?? So much to do so little time!!:)
ReplyDeleteIt is awesome!
ReplyDeleteThat room is perfect. Love it!
ReplyDeleteWonderful stitching room Vonna. Can I come play at your house?
ReplyDeleteI love it! I really like the layout too. And of course the cat accessories. I wonder if my cats would like a basket? They are like some of the other readers felines.....lay on anything that is not a kitty bed! Must be the independent nature of the beast!
ReplyDeleteI love the stash too. Glad to know I'm not alone. I think we need a "sleep over" stitching retreat at Vonna's house!
That was the most entertaining room tour I've ever been on, thank you! Haha! Seriously though, your room is beautiful, and although you may be guilty of gluttony, I may be slightly guilty of jealousy! I want one!!! Love it :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous work space! Thanks for the tour.
ReplyDeleteWow, you are very organised. Your room is beautiful. I bet you'll spend many creative hours in there. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteVonna, your room looks nice and roomy. It is nice to have a place all of your own, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteDearest Vonna
ReplyDeleteI wish you many hours of contented stitching in your newly finished sewing room! I was especially drawn to the quilt on the daybed...I think the pattern is Crown of Thorns???? Is it another one of your creations?
Busy Hands...Happy Heart
Patricia

BrendaS
Absolutely gorgeous! I love how you have everything organized.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great room....it's so clean and organized! You'll be on productive lady now. I think your hubby gets the "HUBBY OF THE YEAR" award for suggesting you get a room all to yourself. :0)
ReplyDeleteWow oh wow. What a fabulous room! I had dreams of my craft room looking something like yours, but with three peoples' crafting supplies in one room, not to mention three sewing machines, two sergers, paper crafting supplies, etc., the room is in a continual state of cluttered disorder. And then there are the supplies in the basement, the basket of cross stitch projects in the living room, the decorative boxes of charts in the master bedroom . . . well, you get the idea! Anyway, enjoy your wonderful room! Oh, and I LOVE the wastebasket for your fiberfill. Might have to copy that idea!
ReplyDeleteYour new craft room looks wonderful Vonna! I like the way you have everything so organized and you have given me some great ideas!
ReplyDeleteYou are very lucky to have your own room to stitch and sew when you want... Have a nice day, Isabelle
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your little tour of a most beautiful room! It looks fabulous. I can foresee new projects and finishes being churned out like a sushi conveyor belt! LOL!! Not that it wasn't before ... ;)
ReplyDeleteWonderful room - I like the organization - I hope you enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteYour room...there are no words! Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous!!! I laughed out loud at the pic of your cat with the caption "hey, whatcha working on?" So funny. And what a great idea for the fiberfil. Trust me, when you need a solution to a craft problem, you will ALWAYS find one!
ReplyDeleteLoved the tour of your stitching room, Vonna! Glad to see you're out of the basement!
ReplyDeleteI love your room Vonna! Everything is just perfect! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new room Vonna! It looks like a fun place to get lost in - for hours! I think it's very sweet that you share it with your kitties. They are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful room! No wonder you have been too busy to stitch. Your kitties are so adorable! My kitty wouldn't be so obliging as to actually sleep in a basket provided for him. He'd want one of the others.
ReplyDeleteWell, that WAS fun! And I'm going to borrow some of your ideas because my stitching room is a terrible mess! Thanks for sharing, Vonna!
ReplyDeleteVonna .... wowwwwwwwwwwww ...

What a great room for such a deserving mom and stitcher! I like that the kitties spend time with you there also.
ReplyDeleteYou are only missing one thing-a little frig!
I have to wait until Sean moves out to take over his room for my own. ; )
So did the kids or hubs get the basement area?
Amazing! No wonder there are so few posts! You do work hard Vonna!
ReplyDeleteLovely!

Vonna, I LOVE your room!! It's so awesome! I would love to have something like that when we move. Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteVonna, You are amazingly organized! Your sewing room is absolutely wonderful! I especially love your gorgeous "sewing" cabinet...what a treasure.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness - what a lovely space to create and just sit and watch the day go by - I bet you have wonderful natural light in your room. Lucky lucky girl and so perfectly organized - enjoy! Melody
ReplyDeleteCongrats Vonna on finally having "your own space"! It looks grand and I'll bet you had a lot of fun fixing it up and organizing. I took over the guest room at our old house several years ago and ever since then I've had a sewing room. I feel very blessed to have one - I telecommute in there on my computer a couple of days of week as well so it gets tons of use. I told my DH from now on wherever we go I must have a craft room! I like the nice big windows you have with your eye on the world. Hope you're always happy in the place!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great room!! And lots of great ideas for organizing "stuff"! It is what I stive for and never quite accomplish! Have fun in your beautiful space.
ReplyDeleteLove your room Vonna! I, too have my own stitching room that desperately needs some reorganization. If you don't mind this gives me a few ideas.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing pics of your room. I am getting ready to convert a small bedroom into my craft room and already have ideas of how I want it. I always love seeing other bloggers rooms.
ReplyDeleteI'll hire you to organize my sewing room...AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, Vonna...you must be over the moon! You new stitchy room is fantastic. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness.. Vonna, your room is fabulous! I want to come over and play :)
