I hope this day finds you all well and happy, doing the things you love best - like, um, STITCHING! :)
I have something fantastic to show you today, that I know you'll want to learn more about! I've been working diligently on this piece for about a month now. Sitting on it, waiting, knowing I couldn't say anything or hint at anything *yet*, but today I got the green light from my friend, Diane that it was OK to talk about today! So here I go!
For about the last year....
knowing that my family wasn't going to change, I've been scouring Family Samplers, trying to find the one that I liked that fit my "style". I have looked high and I've looked low....in fact I dug out all my Cross Stitch and Country Crafts Magazines (I own them all from first to last publication) and all my For the Love of Cross Stitch Magazines (ditto about the whole collection bit) and some other stitching magazines that I've been
Imagine my surprise....
when one day about a month ago, a huge surprise landed in my mailbox! With Diane's compliments, she had gifted me with the Family Sampler, so that I could begin stitching and make sure that the directions were complete. I could tell that Diane was very nervous about the directions, but let me tell you, all I had to do was read through them once and off to the races I was! I started stitching the very day I received the pattern and here is where I am today, please let me introduce the Pfeiffer Family Sampler designed by: Little House Needleworks and will be in Local and Online Needlework Shops any day now!!!
"The Pfeiffer Family Sampler"
designed by: Little House Needleworks ~ Diane Williams
Stitched on 32 ct. Vintage Buttermilk Lakeside Linens
I started off...
smack dab in the middle designing my family. Diane makes it very easy to chart your own family and the tree changes depending on the amount of family members you have and there is a limit of the amount of family members you can have on this sampler, based on the design. (but between you me and the fence post, I think you could "add another band" right below this family band and fill in more family members if you wanted too. Of course that would mess up the count on the vine around the outside of the sampler, but it could be left off - Now Diane DOES NOT suggest this in anyway and in fact tells people with members more than allowable on the sampler not to purchase the sampler - but I think it could be worked in as another band and leaving off the vine.) Anyway....here's my Family. Notice I didn't give my husband a hair transplant (even though the "Daddy" had a full head of hair charted) I made my Daddy look like the one that lives with us ;)
This sampler is....rather large for a Little House pattern, but I'm finding breaking it down into "Bands" makes the stitching go faster (or so it seems to me)! The placement of your surname goes under your family band and it is super easy to figure out placement - just grab a pencil and sketch it in on right on the graph - easy peasy!
This strawberry band....
had me dreaming of strawberry shortcakes for the two days I stitched on it. I love how Diane charted these using two different Crescent Colours cotton floss, no two strawberries are alike - just like in real life and don't these look juicy enough to eat?!
I'm in love....
with my family sampler! I truly and honestly cannot wait until I have this puppy all stitched up. I recently redid my entryway at my house and I have *the most perfect* spot for this sampler when I have it stitched and framed. It's going to be a true family heirloom!
I'm about at....
the halfway mark as of today! I just have the top portion and the outside ivy/flower garland left.
Soon....
stitching victory will be mine!!! And I know it will be so SWEET! Don't you think so too?! Why don't you tell me....are you gonna reserve your Family Sampler copy today? I think you better because this one is going to be a "Greatest Hit" for Little House, I can feel it!
Until next time.....
I'll be keeping my "hands to work and heart to God"! While I finish up my Family Sampler and fly in here to show you the finale :)
Hugs and love,

Vonna,
ReplyDeleteThat is just gorgeous!!! I love all of your little family members. :)

Vonna, This is AWESOME! What a great sampler to represent your family. Diane is so talented and has created a way for everyone to create their own bit of history. I can't wait to get my hands on this one.
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous Vonna! I love how you personalized it, even down to your husbands hair, or lack there of. LOL (My hubby would have even less)
ReplyDeleteI was super excited when I saw this chart on Diane's blog!
Wonderful! Even though I've seen this on the Designer's blog, I still thought yours was finished (didn't see the obvious border gap at left...) This is so nice that I think it could already be done, lol! :D
ReplyDeleteI really feel like Ms. Williams is erring on the side of caution on worrying so over it and advising not to buy if the family won't fit. I most stitchers I know are quite inventive--for example if I owned 12 cats I'd find a way to stitch them all in, lol! The layout is simple enough to work things in and have it look good. But, I suppose it's a designer's job to provide exhaustive instructions and make a product stitchers will be happy with.
Your blonde family is so cute (just like real life)! I love the daddy with his "realistic" hair!
I wonder; will your 4-legged family members show up here, too?
What a beautiful start! Love what you've done! You may very well have swayed me into buying it!
ReplyDeleteIt's really beautiful! :)
ReplyDeleteYoup family sampler is looking great! It really is an awesome design! My kids are grown and married so I'm not sure how i'd want to stitch it.
ReplyDeletethat's beautiful! did you order it off of their website? denises
ReplyDeleteWhat a super piece! (Did it take a few days to write this? It's Wednesday now. ;-) You did a perfect job tailoring this for your family. I'm sure your DH loves the way you styled his hair!
ReplyDeleteYour Family Sampler is beautiful Vonna - it looks so great seeing it all stitched up with your details on it.
ReplyDeleteOMG it is just gorgeous!! I love, love, love it! And you did a fabulous job stitching it. Perfect!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I don't think I'll be stitching this one anytime soon as I am between husbands (LOL!!!!) but there are so many of Diane and Nikki's designs calling my name that I will just live vicariously through yours.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic finish, Vonna! This sampler is perfect. How kind of Diane to pick you as her Guinea Pig Stitcher ~ you lucky girl!
ReplyDeleteThat is wonderful! I can't wait to see it finished and framed.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous ! You couldn't have found a more perfect design for your family.
ReplyDeleteI love how seeing a stitched version can change a mind! LOL I have one child and am wondering how that would look. I can't imagine that tree filling in so much space with 3 less children than you have! :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your 'happy dance' and framing choice.
Terri
Vonna, this is absolutely beautiful!! You are creating another outstanding piece. x
ReplyDeleteOMGosh! What a cool piece it will be. Very awesome!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great piece. Truly an Heirloom. I am going to go reserve mine right now.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing. I LOVE it!
Can't wait to see it finished and in your special place of honor.
Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI have this on my list for my next LNS run and will have to call a couple of weeks ahead to make sure they hold/order a copy for me.
I have an odd number in my family, does the chart have an offset for an odd number of family members?
Lovely family sampler Vonna - I can't wait to see it finished!
ReplyDeleteIt would be easy enough to add another band so long at it was the right depth for a repeat of the border it would be fine!
Your ears must have been burning today! Marie & I were talking about you & this sampler today at quilt group. (nice things of course!)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Vonna! I love the personalizations you've done. I was just thinking maybe I should make this up as a gift for my sister. Can't wait to see the happy dance! :)
ReplyDeleteI saw this on Diane's blog. I'm so glad she gifted it to you so I can see what you did with it! It's wonderful! So exciting to see! Love it!
ReplyDeleteYour family sampler is awesome!!!! I like how you personalized it, even left out your husband's hair~~ LOL!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, this design is going to be a great hit!!
It looks fantastic Vonna. I love how you did your "family".
ReplyDeleteVonna, your sampler really is lovely! Love how you stitched your hubby!
ReplyDeleteI was lucky enough to win a copy of this on Diane's blog and it arrived today. I've just finished pouring through it trying to decide how I will go about things since we have a blended family.
I adore this chart and want to start stitching it as soon as possible.
You are so talented!! I agree with you that we stitcher's are an inventive lot and would figure out a way to add more family members!! Maybe someone will post one that has more than the allotted family members! Can't wait to see your finished sampler, what a great family heirloom you are making for your family to have.
ReplyDeleteVonna, it looks marvelous! I really like the personalization of your DH-very nice!
ReplyDeleteThats a beauty Vonna!
ReplyDeleteI was one of the lucky few who won the chart on Diane's blog and I cant wait until it arrives.
LISA V
What a gorgeous sampler, Vonna!
ReplyDeleteWow! That is so fabulous, Vonna! ANd how nice of Diane to send you the chart early. :D
ReplyDeleteI wonder, how does it work for a family of three? Mom, Dad and son? Is there a nice way to compensate for the odd number?
Oh Vonna! What a nice piece of stitching! Lovely work, and I especially love the personalization of the daddy.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THIS!!! I was looking at this on Diane's blog too and didn't realize it could be customized for your own family, how freakin' fantastic!! Props to Diane! And Vonna, you're pics are lovely, as always :) I cannot wait to see this finished up and get my greedy little hands on this chart too!!
ReplyDeleteOne thing is for certain, this is going to be an ever so lovely sampler for your family!!
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous Vonna! I can see why you were drawn to it. I think you need to stitch one for each of the kids! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning piece Vonna. I just love how you have personalized it for your family. They must be so proud of this piece and their wonderful and talented wife and mom.
ReplyDeleteVonna, that is truly going to be a wonderful family heirloom! Your stitching is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGreat Work Vonna
ReplyDeleteI love the Family Sampler - But of course there are not too many LHN patterns I don't like - Oh wait a minute - I can't think of one -
I think I like them all :)
Take Care
Thats lovely Vonna, can't wait to see it finished and framed
ReplyDeletelooks wonderful! Lovely design for every family:)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful sampler and there are so many possibilities to personalize it - hair colour and style, height of the children, colour of dresses etc. I love your version very much.
ReplyDeleteAmazing and lovely, just like the Pfeiffer's.
ReplyDeleteHugs dear friend
Vonna your family sampler is gorgeous I can see why you fell in love with it - you have made it perfectly.
ReplyDeleteYou have convinced me that I must have it.
Loved reading your post.
Vonna, It's wonderful and you, as always, do it such justice. My budget is so out of whack and this will hit it yet again. Beautiful! :)Cathryn
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet sampler! It's perfect for your family. I can't wait to see it all finished and hanging in your entry way! I'm woefully behind in blog commenting and posting, but had to say how much I love your recent finishes & framing, too. I was talking about you with a friend, saying how I had passed up the From Sea to Shining Sea charts until I saw them on your blog. Lovely work, as always, gf!!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love it!!! Will have to sign up for that one!
ReplyDeleteDh will have to have white hair in my sampler.
Perfect idea for our new home.
LOVE this one!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Vonna.... your Sampler is beautiful..... can't wait to get my pattern....
ReplyDeleteyour idea about a second row is just great because my first husband died - we had 4 boys - and I'd like this to cover both marriages.... I'll bet the fine can be adjusted to fit around the new band.....
thanx for all your info and your wonderful pictures....
take care, Claire

That is so pretty! I can't wait to see it finished!
ReplyDeleteStunning! What an heirloom treasure you have stitched.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I will definitely be purchasing a copy for myself...saw it this morning on Diane's blog and nearly choked on my water...love, love, love it!
HAPPY STITCHIN'
Terri
Wonderful sampler! Love the colors and the personalization. Can't wait to see your finish.
ReplyDeleteIt's just gorgeous Vonna.
ReplyDeleteI think that it will be a great heirloom for future generations of your family to cherish as well.
Vonna, this is a beautiful sampler !! I wish there was room for a couple of doggies, for those of us that don't have children :-)
ReplyDeleteI love this designs and I will have to buy it!! You're an enabler. eh???
ReplyDeleteI fell in love with this sampler when I saw it on Diane's blog, and will definitely order it! Seeing yours just makes it more exciting. We only have two children and a short last name, so spacing isn't a problem for me. Plus, I have the perfect spot in our breezeway that just ACHES for this! Now to find time to stitch it...... :):)
ReplyDeleteCindy in Angola, IN
It's a wonderful piece! I want to get it for myself but, as always with such things, I'm stymied as to how to stitch it. One of the (relatively few) downfalls of not having the same last name as your husband - what name to put on a sampler? lol
ReplyDeleteThat is darling! What a fun thing to stitch up.
ReplyDeleteAwwww....what a wonderful design!! You're doing such a lovely (as usual!) job of stitching - and how sweet of Dianne to let you take it for a "test drive". You ARE prepared to make four of these, right???? I'm sure each of your kidlets would love to have one of these family heirlooms to take with them someday! :)
ReplyDelete(PS - I have just one kidlet - how hard would it be to shift the design to make that look normal? Think it would work or would it look a bit weird - like "someone" was missing? I'm not sure I can talk my hubby into having another baby just so that I can make my "family sampler" easier to stitch!) LOLOLOLOL :)
That is definitely one of the nicest samplers I've seen. The color scheme is pretty and would look great in my house. Did you see my current cross stitch project? http://sharpshack.blogspot.com/2010/08/what-creative-things-are-you-currently.html
ReplyDeleteI'm an eclectic creator, so although my project is large, I have not been bored. Your sampler, doesn't look boring either and may be a nice switch for a while for me.
Thank you again. I am thoroughly enjoying "talking shop" with fellow creative people! :)
Very sweet and I love how you've personalized it :-).
ReplyDeletevery sweet, vonna. I love the hair on the daddy! And the strawberries are beautiful - which color are they. I love the cc for things like berries and jakey brown has to be my fav for so many other things.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very sweet and personal design. It's nice for the other Diane (LOL) to help you out there.
ReplyDeleteIf you like the Beatles, drop by and check out my blog-we just saw Paul McCartney on the 14th. I get no traffic to my blog, you are so lucky. Seems that people aren't blogging much anymore because of Facebook. I also blog as a journal for myself.

Wow, Vonna...that is very impressive. Love your lil' family all stitched up and I can already picture it finished and hanging in your entryway. What a lovely piece of artwork for your family and all who enter your home to enjoy. Love it! Been thinking about you all week and especially on Wed., wondering how Katie's first day of middle school went. Praying all went well! Love/Miss ya! Kel :)
ReplyDeleteOh dear, you've just added another "must stitch" on to my already way too long list, Vonna!! I just love seeing this stitched up and what a wonderful piece of history to pass down through the generations... Can't wait to see the rest :)
