My friend Heather sent me this fabulous project zippered bag for our personal 4th of July Patriotic Exchange. Isn't it simply fabulous?!

Personal 4th of July Patriotic Exchange from Heather
Here are some goodies that Heather sent along too....a darling wooden plaque to hang from a peg in my Americana room and look at those sweet Moda charm packs to try my hand at quilting (Heather knows I have a yearning to do that!) and some other patriotic fabrics too! WOW! I love it all :)
I keep thinking....
that I'm going to have more free time since we are on summer break. Well, to date, that's not happening! LOL! Nope. Instead I've integrated my yearly "Mama's Summer School" into our mornings. We are doing reading groups with quizzes, math, writing prompts and our fun "focus" of the summer is The U.S. Constitution as written by our founding fathers. So far we have learned about the Legislative Branch and its intended functions, along with what a Quorum means and what an Amendment is and why the Constitution needed them from time to time. We are learning much about our country's government and the honest to goodness inspiring qualities that each one of our founding father's possessed to author such a document and give birth to our nation.
So....
that's been our summer so far. How's yours going?
Until next time...
I'll be keeping my "hands to work and heart to God"!
With love and hugs,

Beautiful exchange that you received and sent too! Sounds like you had a wonderful time on your vacation in my neck of the woods. I love it here although it can get a wee bit warm sometimes. lol
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have your summer school all set. I'm trying to get there too but can't seem to get my bottom organized enough to implement. So far, the morning time outside and my work time is all I've gotten into a routine. Tell me your secret with the organizational skills PLEASE!!! lol
That is a beautiful exchange piece! Summer vacation starts next week for my kids and it's always a busy time :)
ReplyDeleteGreat Exchange
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are doing a wonderful job with your kids
What a great mamma :)
What a beautiful exchange piece to receive! The charm packs are very thoughtful! What is the one with the stars called?
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like your 'summer school' is going well! What resources are you using for your lessons?
Enjoy your time with your kids, Vonna!

Great exchange from Heather. The charm packs look gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYour summer sounds like it is very busy with your kids! Maybe you can work a little bit of time in for stitching every now and then.
Take care.
What a wonderful exchange! I love the fabric she used for the bag -- and the stitched piece too! I know how you're feeling about the summer. Busy busy busy!! No time! lol!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful and useful finish! :)
ReplyDeleteHave fun with those charm packs! I've been getting interested in quilting lately, too!
Love your exchange piece...beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteAnd, I applaud your summer school subject matter...wish the public school system cared as much about our children's knowledge of this country's history!!
Florida is my home state, and I was born in St. Augustine, so it warms my heart to hear that you and your family enjoyed your visit there!
HAPPY STITCHIN'
Terri
Glad you like it Vonna :D Now, you better get quilting haha!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE LOVE your choice of teaching the Constitution to your kids, I might have to copy you, that is a fab idea, and it'd help be brush up on it as well. You have a fun summer :D
Vonna: we need more mothers and fathers like you and your husband, so many times parents feel it is not their job to teach about God Our Country and Our Families, good for you, keep up the good work I am very lucky to be following someones blog as yours.
ReplyDeleteOh the exchange is wonderful.
Happy Fourth to you and your family.
God Bless America and all who keep her free.

Darling exchange! I love that Bar Harbor line of fabric. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for teaching your kids about the constitution. It's so important! I'm cheering you on.

Way fun exchange! Those fabrics are so yummy. If I had a sewing machine, all I would do is quilt, and my family would starve and my house would fall into disrepair!
ReplyDeleteI do summer school every year with my kiddos, too. They think I am the meanest mom ever! Happy summer from one mean mom to another!
I did some summer school work to, but basically in math. I hated it that when they went back to school that they had to relearn the entire first semester what they forgot over the summer. I love the fact that you are focusing on our government, I think that so many children are missing out on the fundamentals. Kudos to you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful exchange piece! Your summer school sounds like fun! I'm sure your kids are happy to have something to focus their minds on. We do math quizzes with my neices a few days a week, and they seem to be happy to keep learning.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous exchange, love that project bag.
ReplyDeleteYour summer plans are great, it's such a good idea to keep kids in a 'learning' mode. Still lots of time to play and have fun :-).
What a wonderful exchange you received from Heather!
ReplyDeleteI always say my vacation starts when the kids go back to school LOL I am busier now than in the winter. But I am in Florida so really what winter do I have? lol
Enjoy the time with your kids :)
Those are great goodies!!
ReplyDeleteIs is summer? Between all the rainy days and the busy days, I hadn't noticed. lol
You will love quilting! In our house we've been doing a lot of reading. I need to start doing math for the kids, too. That, and daily trips to the pool!
ReplyDeleteVonna
ReplyDeleteI know that you give up a lot of your time to work with your children but from what I can tell from reading your blog your children are growing up intelligent and moral and just all around good kids. I wish more parents would take the time with their children like you do. The world would definitely be a better place.
Beautiful exchange to receive! I love your summer school idea! When my kids are a little older, I think I will put something similar into practice. You're so wise Vonna!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful exchange. Heather stitched and finished a gorgeous piece. Enjoy the goodies too.
ReplyDeleteI love your idea of "Momma's Summer School". Wonderful for the children.
What a great exchange Vonna!
ReplyDeleteSummer vacation starts today but both the kids are in summer school programs. I'm hoping to get some things done around here, but that probably won't happen. They're in school less in the summer than during the school year!!
Neat bag! Can't believe you haven't quilted. We always think that clearing our schedules means we're going to have more time. Then, we and others fill the schedule all up again and all that FREE time goes right out the window. I'm growing more flowers in my garden than vegetables with MY free time this summer.
ReplyDeleteHappy First Day of Summer!
ReplyDeleteI always thought it was a good idea to incorporate learning into the summer routine.
I love your exchange! How fun to get some quilting fabrics too.
ReplyDeleteYes, this is fabulous! The whole exchange package is!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful exchange.
ReplyDeleteGreat exchange! You sound organized, June tends to be the month of camps in this house.
ReplyDeleteLovely exchange! Sounds like you have a busy summer ahead of you.
ReplyDeleteI always think summers are going to be so relaxing and they seem to just fly by!
ReplyDeleteYour exchange piece is really great and look at all those lovely fabrics!
That zippered bag is adorable! My summer break seems to be speeding by, but I am determined to spend at least a couple of days a week stitching. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a fabulous bag! Heather is so talented!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous project bag! I love those fabric bags; unfortunately, I'm lousy with zippers, so have never attempted to make myself one!
ReplyDeletewow,wonderful job,great post,thank you
