One of my followers "divorced" me today, so I thought maybe that was a *hint* that I need to get my hiney on here and tell you something worth reading. I don't have much, but what I have hopefully will entertain you. Can you pretend it is entertaining at least ?! Gee...thanks you all always have my back :)
As the titles suggests....
in between running the kids to and fro, work and everyday, mundane housework, well ok and stitching some secrets, I have been doing a little needle punching. Here's my very first try...this was with a 6 strand needle and I just have a little bit left to finish. Not too shabby for my first try, right? (You better say yes, Vonna, why that's grrrr-eat!)
Then you know me....
why not just jump head first - singing a rendition of Queen's "We are the Champions" - right smack dab in the middle of something that you know very little about? And as in my driving - if it isn't pedal to the metal and rubber to the road, I don't know what driving is - so I went for the gusto! Mama Mia! I had purchased some cloth and then hand drew Fredrick by Carriage House Samplings on it. I stupidly thought that, "Hey, I have Fredrick and hey, I have Fredricka - so I'm going to punch them - it'll be faster!" LOL! LOL! LOL! Gosh I make myself laugh sometimes! Maybe it is a little faster - but I agonized over the drawing for 4 hours! Yep from 2 a.m. until 6 a.m., one morning when this idea whacked me, right in the middle of my forehead, and brazenly woke me up to get on with it! Can you believe the audacity? What is this world coming to?
So....
here's Fredrick from the "wrong side":

And....
Here he is from the right side (pictures clickable):

Purdy...ain't he?
I haven't told anyone this "openly" on my blog. But on September 21st, I became a Weight Watcher Member. I was scared, embarrassed, desperate...and I just did it. You know I am not unlike what I feel a drug addict must feel like, except food is my drug of choice. So in my mind, going to Weight Watchers was like an intervention. I have a problem, I've admitted it to myself and I know the world has seen it for the past 9 years or so. For the past 6 weeks I have faithfully *every day* counted my points and have eaten within them and have done 30 minutes on the elliptical keeping my pace at 3.8 - 4.2 mph and making sure that I get in at least 2 miles in that 30 minutes. Some days I can get in 2.5 miles in 30 minutes going 4.5 mph or higher. I haven't missed doing my elliptical in 6 weeks. NOT. ONE. DAY.
I'm not telling you.....
all this for accolades or pats on the back or any sort of feedback period. Although I got the last little *push* that I needed from reading of others and being friends with others that are on the program. You know what? That step I took into a room filled with men and women on September 21, 2009 at 5:37 p.m. was the best, single thing I've done for myself, my life, my family ever. Period. This step will be a huge part of my life for many weeks, months and years from now on. If you are even *thinking* about Weight Watchers, do it! My decision to join Weight Watchers is a lot of the reason why my blogging is being cut down to only weekly posts. I'm taking time to focus on ME and get me back to the person I looked like 20 years ago. I looked good. I want to look that way again and you know what? I will only I'll be better, seasoned, like a fine wine. You can count on it. Mark it down, write it in the books - my will is firm and I have one hell of a strong constitution. I'll git 'er done, as my Pap used to say, come hell or high water.
So....
with that little bit of cheering from the recesses of my own head. I congratulated my victories over the past 6 weeks and loss of 14.2 lbs. with a trip to the nail salon. I haven't had my nails "done" since I was pregnant with Katie in 1997. Welcome back, fancy nails :)
So with that....
my story is complete. If I'm not around here at my own blog, I will be back again soon. And I really do try to spend a little bit of each and every day with you on your blogs. Please don't divorce me, I'll be here, but I just need to focus a little more on ME so that I can be HERE for a whole lot longer.
Until next time my dear friends and stitching buddies....
Love and best wishes, as you count your blessings and your stitches, from our house to yours! XXxxxx
Life is not intended to be simply a round of work, no matter how interesting and important that work may be. A moment's pause to watch the glory of a sunrise or a sunset is soul satisfying, while a bird's song will se tthe steps to music all day long.

Weight Watchers and punch needle and new nails...oh my!
ReplyDeleteVonna, you just ROCK my world with your inspiration and spunk! If I had the courage to try any ONE of those three things I would need to lay down for a week.
You go, you skinny minnie you!
(My word verification is conedip. Cone dip. As in "I'm such a boob that I now want to go get a dipped cone from Dairy Queen".
(Must. Not. Cave. Must. Think. Of. Miss. Vonna. And. All. Of. Her. Hard. Work.)
Good for you Vonna! You Go Girl! I lost 90 lbs. on WW many moons ago. Perhaps I should try again? You inspire me girlfriend.
ReplyDeleteAmy
Vonna - I enjoyed seeing your progress with the punch needle designs. It's always fun to try something new. Best of luck with WW!
ReplyDeleteVonna --
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the punch needle! I especialy like Fredrick. Good luck with WW and taking the first step to taking care of yourself which is so important! You have to make TIME for yourself so that you can recharge your batteries!
BrendaS
First, I want to know if there is any craft that you're not good at! LOL Good job on the punchneedle, I have tried it and I suck at it. Maybe some day I'll get it. Second, congrats on the weight loss! I keep threatening to join WW too, really should. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteFrom a fellow momma who too often puts herself (and her diet) last...i say...CONGRATS! Way to go girl!
ReplyDeleteI believe all moms should take time for themselves!! I just took back some of my time this past year and it feels great - no guilt here!!
ReplyDeleteLove the nails and the punchneedle!
Good for you Vonna. If you don't focus on yourself, whose going to do it for you? I'll be cheering you on all the way! I definitely know what it's like to diet (having lost 30 pounds a couple years back - never losing those pounds after DD was born). It takes a lot of commitment.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe what a fantastic job you're doing with the needlepunch. And your Frederick - I can't believe that you drew that out and did it! Huge kudos to your needlepunching and weight loss goals. YGG!!
Vonna, great job! You're right. You do need some time for YOU!!
ReplyDeleteI started doing WW earlier this year, but fell off when I fell in my "pit" this summer. I need to get back with it!
By the way, love you Laura quote at the end of your post! ;)
You go girl!!!!!! You are such an inspiration to us all that we want you around for a long time!!!! Keep it up. Will be in your corner cheering you on whatever you do!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! It's very difficult to take a diet and an exercise program seriously and I know what I'm saying... It's not only wanting to see my child 's growing, it's moving better, faster, having better clothes, the best health... You're an inspiration!! Do you know how punch needle is called in Portugal? Fada do Lar (home fairy) and I say no more. I did a Mickey Mouse at school at the age of 10.Your bird is beautiful. Hugs, MJ
ReplyDeleteWow! Cool new crafting skills, big-time weight loss and super-sexy nails all at one time. Way to go! I like to read all that good news.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I can practically "hear" the joy in your post. Positivity is contagious and you are doing a great job spreading it. Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteWow! Vonna, your needle punch is fabulous! YGG. I am so impressed.
ReplyDeleteEven better than your skill at all things crafty, I am so impressed with your will--and bravery. Good for you. My older daughter did WW and was very successful with it. I keep saying I should do it but having done it before and GAINED 3 lbs the first week (yes, I am probably the only person able to gain weight on a weight loss program!!), I just haven't done it. YGG. I'm cheering you on.
Your Frederick is beautiful! I can't get the hang of that punchy stuff to save my life. Congrats on the weight loss too!
ReplyDeleteI agree...Good For You! You have to take care of you first, eveything else will just have to fall in line. Love your punch work. I've never tried it, but it sure looks neat. Your drawing is pretty amazing. I look forward to seeing the finished piece. Keep up the good work...and don't worry...I don't believe in divorce:) So, I'll be around to check out what you've been up to when you've got time to let us know how life's treating you.Have A Great Day!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the weight loss, Vonna! It's such hard work to lose weight!
ReplyDeleteI checked to make sure...I'm still following you!
That's a funny coincidence--dear boyfriend and I started on a diet right about the same time, and have lost about the same amount (though I haven't been exercising properly...)
ReplyDeleteBut, Go, You!!
And, don't worry overmuch about loosing readers. It may be nothing. For example, I use blogger to blog, and google reader to follow stuff, including stitchyblogs, online. And their overlap is a little confusing in that your blogger follwed blogs show up in your reader, but not vise-versa. So, perhaps you didn't actually "loose" a reader, maybe they just changed the way they are following you. :D
I have you in my reader and so that's how I knew to come by today! I won't admire you any less if you post infrequently.
There is something I've been meaning to blog about, but I'll go ahead and mention here: I wanted to thank you for sending Edgar a Penny rug. :) The way it affected me was that I kept seeing it on his blog...then saw that he said that you had sent it...then searched his blog to find the Penny-rug intro post...then followed the link to your blog, then searched your blog for penny rugs, then saw where to buy them, and bought 2-a blue for me and an ivory for my mother who was coming for a visit. Things aren't entirely great between the two of us, but we had a wonderful time making penny rugs together. We laughed and traded circles like kids with pokemon cards to get the best combos. It was really fun.
I still will blog this with pictures at some point, but I wanted to sharethis story with you as an illustration that you may not know all the ways your influence can reach people--look at what you started in my life by sending Edgar a RAK. :D
So, Thank You,,
Berit
:D
I really like your punchneedle pieces. I tried punchneedle once and it was a dismal failure! I'm glad you're enjoying it and doing so well with it.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on making a decision to focus on yourself! You deserve it.
Vonna, fabulous job with WW! You're tough and strong. I'm so impressed.
ReplyDeleteYour punch needle drawing looks great. Since I draw stick people, I probably won't be following you into the world of punch needle design. Instead, I will worship you from afar.
Vonna...good for you! New craft outlet, new nails and new goals. Love the punchneedle progress...look at Frederick..wow. And best of luck to you on WW. I'll be cheering you on! You need to take the time for yourself...we'll be here checking in on your progress! :)
ReplyDeleteVonna,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the needle punch ~ is it hard? I do alot of basketweaving, cross stitching, sewing, working with wax & I really, really, really want to try needlepunch but I'm chicken, lol. Did you use a tutorial?

ReplyDeleteWow ~ great job on the punching. I've not tried that as of yet (that's all I need, another hobby!)
I started my LHN ornament last night.. this is so fun!
Hey, congratulations on the weight loss and being a WW member. I'm a lifetime member but fell off the wagon this year.. I started back last week and hope to get off the 14 pounds I need to get back to my goal weight. I love WW because it's a way of life, there's no special food to buy and the meetings are what kicks me into gear. I go on Thursdays, what day to you go?
Keep up the good work and you can always email me about WW if ya need to chat it up with another member :)
Michelle
Your punch needle adaptations are excellent Vonna - you are doing a super job - i love the look of punch needle but since I do traditional wool rug hooking - no way I can start anything else LOL - Good luck with WW - I'm sure you'll be very sucessful - thanks for visiting my blog - I have become a follower of yours and will look forward to your posts whenever they fit into your busy life. I'm interested in your LHN ornie SAL but I'll email you on that as you requested. thanks Mel
ReplyDeleteHey there! I love your punchneedle. Been meaning to try it!
ReplyDeleteBut I really want to congratulate you on joining WW. It's a wonderful program. I've lost 30+ pounds with many more to go. And I got so discouraged because I've been playing with the same 5 pounds for many months now, to the point where I just decided to give up. Until I read your post. Thank you for the inspiration to continue. I am getting to goal!
Anyway, if you need encouragement or want to talk WW, just drop an email. We all can use some cheerleading!
Congrats on your weight loss journey so far! WW is a wonderful place and I had thought about joining many times before my illness caused me to loose weight. LOVE your punch needle work and the Frederick and Frederica will be stunning when finished!

Congrats on doing something for yourself!! It took me to the point I wanted to do something to make me feel better not everyone else. Weight Watchers did that, I go to meetings every sat that I don't work and feel great afterward even if I haven't had the best week!!

One of your readers divorced you??? Did they also ask for alimony? LOL
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and I don't see a problem with someone posting less. Most certainly not when it has such a good reason as you have. Good luck with the weight watchers, and your nails look great too. Good on you that you take some time for yourself.

congrats! You can do it! Making ourselves healthier is so important!!
ReplyDeleteThe punch needle looks good. Never tried that!!!
congratulations, vonna, on everything! I started November with the commitment to just 'put one foot in front of the other' every morning. And that's what I'm doing. I'm up to 3 miles a day, shooting for 6. December's goal will be to focus on my food intake.
ReplyDeleteI'm proud of you!
Hello,
ReplyDeleteJoining all the cheering voices: Good for you. Sometimes one has to do what one really needs. I lost 12Kilos since July. One more and I will fit again in my weeding dress!!!! Although not through Weight Watchers!

Wow. You are a busy lady that has gotten even busier! Well done on the punch needle... it looks great. But, 2-4 am? yikes. You won't regret taking care of yourself, and what a great example for your kids too.
ReplyDeleteVonna,
ReplyDeleteYour punch needle looks great!! Fredrick looks great! I'm so impressed that you drew that yourself!! You did such a great job. Congrats on losing 14+ lbs! That's wonderful! I've been trying to motivate myself to get on the treadmill - it's so hard, so I know what determination you must have to keep to your elliptical workout everyday. I have to set a reminder if my calender to do it, or I won't get on. I'm so proud of you!! :)
HiVonna--You never cease to amaze me with your creativity and talent! Your Frederick punch needle is creativity at its finest...Can't wait to see the whole thing finished.

You are one amazing lady. Congrats on the WW success. I need to do that too, but until I really can get my head into it, it would be fruitless.

I just want to say great job on the weight watchers and your progress so far!!!!!!!!!!! I know it must make you feel so thrilled-- letting the cat out of the bag, and we can all root and cheer with you!! What a great idea to do Frederick with punchneedle. I love that one and it is super to see your progress so far. A big thank you for your inspiration last night, after reading you revised your pattern from 2AM- 6AM, I thought while stitching, well, if Vonna can do it, why cant I?!!! Thanks for secretly rooting me on :). I love reading your blog, and your 'little wisdom' is the truth, and I thank you for that too! I appreciate all your positiveness!!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog it is so cute.
ReplyDeletePunch needle is neat and you are doing a great job with that...and also your exercise and commitment to yourself! Moms always think of themselves last.I'm hoping to have a procedure done (lady issue) that will help me to feel better so I can too 'take that step' to losing weight and being able to do more. Thanks for the inspiration!

ReplyDeleteThis is so great Vonna -- good for you! I went through a personal slump during the child-raising years, too. It's so hard to spend time and energy on yourself when everyone else needs you too. Keep up the good work ... you're worth it!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Jeanne
I am a little late with my comment to this blog, but I had a good reason, although it wasn't really a good reason...my poor old computer diesd! I just got this one hooked up and I am catching up with everyone.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy that you have joined WW!!!! No really, I am. I have been there (this time) since the 26th of August and this time it is working for me. I can't believe how much my health has improved in the last few months! You will be amazed at how quickly it goes and how hard it is not!
Good for you, taking care of yourself, good for you coming along with us on ths fantastic journey!
I'm loving your punching! I had styarted some myself a while back, but I have been distracted and wanting to get back to it. The punches are so cool! And look at you doing your own drawing of great designs to punch. That's lots of work!
Yes, Vonna, it's great, lol. (Am I doing fine?) But seriously, you were doing a great start on this new hobby. And I *love* your start on Frederic. It looks adorable.
ReplyDeleteGreat to have joined WW and doing so good at it. I wish you all the success that is possible with them.
Well done on the weight loss and for trying new crafts.

ReplyDeleteOh I am so pleased for you Vonna! It's a very difficult step to take and I know you will continue to do well with the support of family and friends. Way to go!!!
ReplyDeleteYou go, Vonna! WW is awesome! I gave my SIL the materials (she couldn't afford the meetings) but she read and counted points and in a little over a year had lost 100lbs. She looks great. I lost 16 lbs. but fell off the wagon and have debated going back. You will feel great and the lifestyle change will be wonderful for you and your whole family!
ReplyDeleteAn insightfull post on "Good Day Friends!".I'm using the methods from http://debtfreeliving.lose20.com to reduce weight and it really works.
ReplyDeleteThanks,

Your punch projects look great, and I love the way you decided to draw Fredrick and how he's turning out. Congrats too on the weight watchers. You are so focused when you decide to do something I'm sure you'll do great on it.
ReplyDeleteSue
Vonna, you are amazing! I love the punch needle interpretation for Fredrick. He's already a cutie. As for WW - it's a great lifestyle program that you really can follow for the rest of your life. I have to pay particular attention to your recipe blog now! Keep at it, and keep making time for yourself!
